SAN MARCOS, Texas—One student has died and another is hospitalized after jumping from a Texas State University dormitory first-floor window and falling about six feet.
School spokesman Mark Hendricks says 24-year-old sophomore Eirin Ann Hicks of Temple suffered head injuries in the incident around 2 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Hall. She died hours later at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin. Hicks was a resident adviser.
A freshman, 19-year-old Kristin McCreery of the Houston area, remained hospitalized Wednesday with back injuries. Hospital spokeswoman Ellen Decareau (DEK’-uh-roh) says McCreery was in fair condition.
Hendricks says a male student who also jumped from the window, above a hill, wasn’t hurt.
University police were interviewing students to determine what happened.
Counselors were available at TSU in San Marcos, located 30 miles south of Austin.

The news originally reported 3rd floor as the floor they jumped from, at least when the story aired last night. I can hardly believe one would be killed and another have life threatening injuries from jumping out of a 1st floor window. They must have been really intoxicated and just flat out landed their heads...

guys it does not matter the height. All the height matters is what kind of condition the body is in after it is said and done. I work in construction and most things happen 4 feet and below. I knew a guy in college who jumped over a 4 foot fence and landed wrong and that was it! Also any one remember the H.S. football coach here that died after he was punched and fell to the ground. Died because the way his head hit the ground.
Not preaching but most people associate deaths from falling with higher elevations.

She must have just landed wrong or something... sounds like they all jumped together.
I used to walk by there all the time and can't imagine someone dying by jumping out of the first floor window.

Thats pretty crazy. I know about 10 girls that live in that dorm, but luckily no one i knew was mentioned in the article
I could see how you can break a leg or sprain an ankle, but to die seems like they must have been pushed out or something.. something doesnt seem right
