Default Personal Plates

I'm thinking about getting a personal plate for my truck and was wondering how much do you guys pay for them? I'm looking at the black background with the Texas Star on the side. The website is saying $200 for a year does that sound about right?

That's what I paid. Once the state stopped making them, the price went through the roof.

Go figure. Oh well it's definitely a badass looking plate! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting completely ripped off. Thanks man and nice plate!

I was in dmv yesterday and overheard a conversation about this. 200 up front 200/yr. But that is from the third party website. The state is still offering some custom plates significantly cheaper. Don't remember price though.

So the first year is $400 if I understood that correctly? Maybe it will be easier to just go down to the DMV.

all depends on the plate type...and for how long you want it (1, 5, or 10 years).

Got mine a couple of years ago and it costs me an extra $40 a year on top of the regular registration charges.

I'm about to renew my 4th year. I bought mine with the state, $40 a year. It's a plain one, but that's all I want anyways.

You can get them cheaper if you purchase multiple years. I didn't do that though. I still have the old personalized plate on the Camaro. I assume it will still be $40 plus the registration?? With the price of the new ones, you just have to decided how bad you want it. I believe you can also have that plate type/color with just a random number cheaper than the $200.

they go from simple, which is a standard plate you would get from DMV. random 7 letters and numbers. the "T" plate, which just as a T in front of the letters. to one where you choose 2 numbers and 3 letters (or vice versa). to the luxury series, which is the fully personalized one where you can make it anything you want (to an extent) and any of the available plates.

This is all "luxury series" plate pricing
1 year plate is 200, and that will be 200 every year.

5 year is 500, and that will be renewed every 5 years. so 100 a year, plus stand TX registration.

10 year is 600, and thats every 10 years. so 60 a year plus your normal registration.

basically the way the plate work is:
the plate is tied to your name, not the car it is on. so if you sell your car, you can just put the plate on your new car. but every car in texas will still get a plate tired to that vehicle. so you will still need to pay the yearly registration at the DMV. but the plate you order from My Plates will only expire at the end of the term you bought the plate for.

You can get a specialty plate which is $30-40.
https://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/...rvlet?grpid=60

Once you select a plate, scroll down and you see you can personalize it for $40.
https://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/...d=60&pltid=114

This is still through the state so renewal fees should be like the old personalized plates.

My wife has the old set. The state sent her a new set this year, so I don't know why they have it where you have to go through myplates.

Those are only plates that support a particular organization. That's cool, but I don't have one to support. Their link for "regular" personalized plates sent me to plates.com.
Just checked the myplates site. You can now do layaway!!!

Yes they support an organization, but you can get them personalized too. They also have colleges.
Its either a $70-80 for a personalized organization/college plate, or $200+ for the others.

The cost of the vanity plate is every year + the cost of the normal registration sticker.
