Default oil pressure help :\

I finished my car up about a week ago and I noticed the oil pressure was at 20 and would stay there even when I would get on it. Last night when I was driving I noticed that the oil pressure dropped to 0.... the car was fine turnedover with no problems. When I reached to the back of he intake I noticed that the oil pressure sensor was broke. So I chenged it and th oil pressure idles at 60. When I accelerate even a littleit goes to 80.... whas the deal?

That's way too much, you should add some sand to the oil so the bearings will wear down and equalize the pressure.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say please don't add sand to your oil.

I'd say you are okay since I've been seeing those pressures for 10 years in my car..

Your oil pressure is fine. Don't put sand in your oil.

Well, obviously there are several things that can contribute to your oil pressure. Ported vs. stock, weight, operating temperature, etc. But these engines are known to have high oil psi.

It seems like people used to ask all of the time if 80psi at WOT was too much, and the consensus answer was no. The pressure the OP is recording does not seem out of the ordinary based off of my experience.

Stock engine, stock oil pump, 5w30 castrol syntec (not high mileage or anything). Operating temp is right at about 210 according to the gauge. The car runs fine. Its got 120,000 and some change on it now, had 87,000 when I bought it.,

There's nothing wrong with your oil pressure either. My Camaro had almost exactly the same oil pressure when it was stock. It actually went down a bit after the cam swap.

The oil pressure is going to vary from car to car. The OP said that he just finished his car up, so I am inclined to believe that his engine is not stock. I would assume he is running a ported pump.

I only use the new 5w30 - 1200 Grit oil with 100% natural sand. It comes with the block off plate to use when you remove your filter. The sand will tear up even the best filter, so it's best just to remove it instead of ruining it.
