I'm in inspection and have been up and down both sides of the ship channel, and for a larger facility tied to a HUGER facility, BOP operators were all pretty casual. Hot side Cold side BOPX it all seemed pretty chill except for the heaters always being in repair.
I also know a few guys in operations that have been out there for a while. They all seem to like it ok.
I haven't been out there on site since those contractors killed BOPX with the overhead crane control on the top deck. Do they still have smoke shacks in the units next to the operator shelters?
Anyway, to the people that get in to test don't limit yourself to the EXMO Baytown facility. Check off all of the stuff for Pipeline as well as the Beaumont plant. If you're on the East side of town it's only about an hour's drive over there.
Good Luck!
