Guess we know what side you voted for the last election with you believe things should be given to you instead of earned.. oh well.. 3 more years...

The joke is you believe you deserve more money simple because..maybe if your not making enough money you could start selling all those mods that you got listed but im betting that is not going to happen either... i probably paid for most of them anyways... so i say to you.. Your welcome...

Are you doing physical network cable runs and stuff like that? Or are you programming routers, switches, load balancers, etc???

Guess it all depends on your experience and education.

Are you a contractor or working for one company?

I'd say for either the bottom dollar would be 50k + benefits.

We need to do a rationalization on the English/American language and just have one 'your' and 'to' since most people use them interchangeability and/or don't know which is which. Just saying.

Not knowing anything else about you, the job, etc. I'd look at $10 as being better than being unemployed and, at the very least, a foot in the door to what could become a pretty nice paying gig. (Career advancement, etc.)

I'm in the voice side of networking for a hospital. I started in a desktop position with only personal PC experience in 1999 for 13 an hour without any kind of degree. I have worked my up to a lead technical/management position for a lot more. Depends on if your doing cable runs where I can see 10 an hour could be common since there is a lot a unskilled laborers willing to work at that pay scale. If your actually configuring and maintaining any type of a data network I would think 10 an hour is low but you have to take into consideration that they are giving you basically free training.

Most people don't want to invest too much right off the bat so you can just go work for someone else. Just bust your *** and if they are a good company with good management you will move up. From where you are starting there is ton of different directions you can go and specialize in like security, fire, access control, data, video surveillance, home automation....etc. I get to deal with people at every end of the spectrum from guys like you pulling wire to the engineers working with the integrators. There are a lot of individuals and small business owners thriving right now in all related fields and it seems as though you have had a few already acknowledge your thread.

If all you do is run cable it is about right, and you should find a better job. No future in that unless you own the business.

Otherwise, getting paid to get experience in that field is gold. That is what you get on top of your $10/hr. You won't be at $10/hr for long if you are smart about it. Just manage any debt piling up wisely. You'll be able to pay it off as your salary doubles and triples.
