The current quickest electric vehicle in the world as of May 4th, 2012 is the "Rocket Bike", a motorcycle owned by Shawn Lawless and piloted by Larry "Spiderman" McBride with a time of 6.940 seconds ET in the quarter mile at 201.37 MPH for a new NEDRA World Record.
I think there's some electric dragsters in the 7s but this the fastest EV I've read / seen. The problem is it drains the bats every run and requires a recharge. You won't be driving to the track, rip off a few 9s, then drive home.

That little miata has a fully built Rick Stevens chassis under it. It had a twin turbo small block in it originally I believe, but the guy never finished the project. It's from down here in the Brazoria County area. The guy that owns it now used to have a badass electric fiero from what I understand
