At the company I previously worked for we got to go to Michelin's Laurens Proving Grounds and do a lot of neat tests with different tires, and here is one thing I learned there; unless you are doing a majority of your driving in weather below about 37 degrees you want a summer tire, not an all season.

An instructor there at Michelin taught me this after we made some passes in identical BMW's on a wetted down autocross track. One car was equipped with ultra high performance summer tires, the other had ultra high performance all season tires. The summer tire whooped the high performance all season tire's ***. It turned out that it was all relative to temperature, and on that day it was roughly 55-60 degrees out.

The all season tire is engineered to work better in near freezing and below temperatures. The summer tire will give up some grip to the all season tire at these temps.

At first I didn't get that and asked why the summer tire worked better on the wet track than the all season, the instructor's remark was "what, it doesn't rain in the summer?" He said it all has to do with temperature. So the all season tire will grip better at freezing or near freezing than a summer tire, and the summer tire will grip better than an all season tire in anything above freezing temperatures on a WET OR DRY road.

Also, in the size/profile you are looking for, you may not find an all season tire anyway.

Hope that helps.

I have pilot super sports on the back and p2's on the front. The super sports don't seem to do as well as I would like in wet conditions.

Anytime. I edited the way I wrote it just a little, I wrote that in a hurry and some of it was a little confusing.

I assume you meant Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s on the front? If so, that is one of the tires we tested on the wet road course, I was shocked how well that tire gripped during some hard cornering on wet pavement, it seemed like it was dry out it gripped so well. The Super Sport is actually the tire that replaced the PS2 when it was discontinued, so it should grip just as well ("should" grip just as well). But really to test that you would need to put a set on the front. You are comparing traction of your drive wheels (rear) versus you steering wheels (front), that's not going to really give you a fair comparison.

Yes, I meant the ps2. And I'm comparing having a 285 ps2 on the rear vs a 305 super sport on the rear. Yes they are wider.... But the difference is huge. I just wasn't that impressed. Need to get a softer compound tire back there pretty soon anyway so might try something else. Not like it gets driven much in the rain...
