The K40 detector/ "Jammer" combo is very overpriced considering what you get, and the jammer performance is mediocre at best. Sadly this is one example where more money does not mean a better product.
The 8500 x50 and 9500ix are using the same antenna so the range or sensitivity will be equal 99% of the time. As you can see in here (and various other places) the best detectors are mostly Beltronics, Escorts, and the V1.
Radar jammers are illegal in all 50 States, laser jammers are illegal in around 17 I think. It's important that if you are a jammer user that proper operation techniques be used. Meaning if you get shot with laser, slow down asap and then shut the jammer off so the officer can get a reading.
You live in Clear Lake, so I can give you an example that happened recently. I was going down 518 and took a left on hwy 3 going towards nasa rd 1. My V1 started going off as soon as I passed TF Supplements. Slowly at first, then it would quickly get faster the more i drove. I started around that curve/bridge and before I was half way around it, my radar was going nuts. I didn't see a cop anywhere, but it kept going off. I got up to the intersection right under Nasa bypass, and sure enough, there was a cop sitting there under the bridge.
So not only did it go off a good ways from the cop, it also picked up on him over a bridge and around a big curve.

There the Escort Redline looks best. And the 8500>9500 per those tests.
The V1 they don't compare except at the end. It picks up more false alarms than the 9500 by a ton.
8500 is probably enough and is affordable.
Here is the Redline vs V1. If you don't need the rear radar capabilities, the Redline is a good choice.

But the V1 is still pretty much the standard.
