plants hiring?
PS.. you really should watch who you talking to esp since you use your name as a screen name. You never know who is on the other side and may/maybe not be closer then you think and who they know that may impact your way of life.
I'm also at the Downtown office at least once a week in meetings.

Stop harassing me, I'm sure you know what harassment is since you make it to downtown meetings no?
Not like legitimately hire me.
Just put me on the payroll and send me a check everyweek or two???
Don't have to put me down for any OT.
I'm not greedy. 40hrs a week is fine.
Just wondering how my plant may compare to some others that are out there. If OT was available everyday I would work it. Ive been working all this month and will be off thanksgiving and will be about the same in december and be off a few days around xmas.

Some months have more OT than others. There is always a vacancy to be filled: vacation, ERT, someone leaving what ever.. This is the lyondell bayport PO plant im talking about we also work 4 on 4 off.
Doing the math, a first year operator with that much overtime and a good bonus payout will make about $130K.

We get paid under $40 per hr but there is a rumor that they are going to make us the highest paid next yr. I'll believe it when I see it. They tell us we are the highest paid with benefits but most want cash in hand. We get a decent hourly rate, bonuses of 10-15% per yr cash, 8-12% put into our pension, and 8-12% into our 401k. In retirement here the guys get around $3-$500k for pension, and have anywhere between $500-$2mil in there 401ks for 20+yrs of service.
I don't work overtime unless for a project or turnaround. Now it does suck doing it that way because I go from 14 days off a month to 12-15 hr days for 2-4wks straight. A good balance is for those who want ot to be available and those who want none not to be forced.
For those of you not in this business it may be hard to understand. Our jobs are great in that your salary is 75-95k base with the ability to make another $50k in overtime. This is great for making etxra money for vacation or toys. Guys in their early 20s make $100k and most of them bastards live at home!
Also consider while everyone else is working during the week you are off and you can get stuff done or fish, hunt...
Now I'm just ur average Joe but I have a wife who doesn't work, 3 kids, and I live a decent life being an operator.

I was just wondering what kind of OT other ops were working and I guess Im in the same ball park.
My only regret is not knowing about this career a long time ago.
500hrs = $120k ish at Head Operator pay rate.
We get annual bonuses too but...they have so many goals/targets to hit, the bonus is usually only 2-3% ....
I'm on the control board now so there is less OT available..
After Obama rapes you on taxes, your check is peanuts anyway..
wow, just looked, I've got 99 hours overtime for this year, hahaha. Love me some no pay days.
JOE - are y'all DuPont schedule out there at Chevron? I assume y'all are since you say your normal is 14 days a month.

I could probably get by doing a couple of transmission side jobs every month but that's not something I want to rely on nor is it relevant to what I would ultimately like to do.
Any of you ever start out in a position where you went to school and work in the plants or a company associated with them? Maybe as a laborer or something that paid you at least 12/hr?
It's frustrating knowing what you are capable of but being limited by time and certifications (or experience you can prove on paper), but that's how you have to start!
Any tips or leads appreciated!
