Transmission Upgrade
Transmission Upgrade Soooo, recently added a procharger and the T56 transmission is about to let go. What is the stock transmission rated for? Could just buy another one.
Or do I just need to get an upgrade. My mechanic wants to charge me 2250-2450 to upgrade it. If I purchase an already upgraded one then he charges 650 to install.
Just want to see what others have paid to get this done?

I believe the stock T56 is rated around 450hp (also depends what year you have), however I have seen people doing fine around 600hp. Moreover, this greatly depends on your driving style.
My first question would be, what is your mechanic upgrading for that price? I would definitely go with a reputable shop, I wouldn't just trust anyone to upgrade the transmission. Have you done any research on local shops? There's Texas Drivetrain Performance in Fort Worth. RPM Transmissions, Tick Performance to name a few more.
If the transmission is going to be out you may want to upgrade it, at the very least, having billet or solid sliders keys put in. That alone will extend the life of the transmission.
I'm not sure what it costs these days to drop a transmission, I do all that work myself because I have trust issues with mechanics, but that price does seem a little steep.

Jason at TDP built my T56 and repaired internal damage. No regrets and shifts much cleaner.
That was several years ago near the beginning of this long term build, want to say something around the 2 grand mark.

Yeah, Jason is a stout guy. Very patient and answered all my questions. I purchased my Magnum from him about 6 months ago and I love it.
