Help a guy out ?
BelAirBob
A little background- This car was bought from the second owner in 1971, and sold to two gents from Texas as a rolling car, no eng/trans in 1979 Car originally was X33 with D80- Factory ZL2 hood, RS package, console gauges, and factory chambered exhaust!. When we sold it it still wore its original GM hugger orange paint. Car was a drag car,so was never insured or titled in Dad's name for that matter. The story was that a doctor in Maryland (Dr. McDonald) had a son, Chuckie, who decided to take out a fire hydrant with the car while doing burnouts and donuts. The good doctor quickly sold the car to my Dad.
SINCE OCTOBER 19, 2022-
FOUND THE VIN- 124379N634506.
Originally sold by SPORT Chevrolet in Silver Spring Maryland.GM build date 4/25/69. (per NCRS shipping report). Likely bought May of 69 by original owner. It was my Dad's car, which he bought in 1971.
In terms of this 3-year intense search, the following has all occurred since Oct 19 of this year.
- A random gent chimed in on an ad I had run for THREE YEARS . Said he knew all about the car and provided the name of guy who bought from my Dad.
- Contacted this person, who luckily remembered who he sold it to in the early 80's. Checked on that person who is now deceased, but looked at his obituary, which listed his brother's name.
- Guess what was on the brother's Facebook page? That's right! The car from back in the day! Renamed "Dirty Deeds".
- I then posted that pic on a DFW nostalgic drag car site on Facebook, and three people identified the next and final owner of the car. Amazing to say the least! I think Dad is winking and laughing very hard somewhere at this point. After 43 years, we finally have a full VIN and last known owner of the car. What we do not have yet is the actual location of the car!
- Collected some pics along the way of how the car changed. The one posted is from late 80's. Allegedly the last know owner retained the car for more than 30 years.
- The latest is that a bank holds a lien on this car as a result of a business collateral loan that went bad. The last known owner is, you guessed it- deceased. Passed suddenly in 2016. Next of kin attempted to get the title only to be told there was a balance. so now ..the car has mysteriously vanished or is possibly being hidden. Rumor has it that the bank almost repossessed it just last year.
- Car came to Texas in 1979 and to my knowledge, is still here is West Texas. I'm sure that SOMEBODY knows SOMETHING. Finder's fee paid!
If any fellow Camaro brother(s) here knows about titles, the law and next recommended steps, I'm all ears. I KNOW we are over the target at this point!
The ins and outs of this search should be made into a short story or HallMark movie! Your help and guidance is appreciated! Just want to FIND it at this point, and if the owner will let me- RESTORE it.
