Default thinking of moving to Houston

i was asked by my boss if i would consider a transfer to houston, i am still undecided. my wife still has a semester of nursing school, so it will have to wait till next summer if we move. i live in corpus christi now(3 hours south of h-town) and i really love it here. everything is so calm and slow paced, but there is just something about living in the big city that excites me. i have been to Dallas/FT. worth, san antonio, and other big cities..but to be honest, corpus has this feeling like no other. what do you guys think, is houston worth giving it a try?? your replies might help in my decision.

I love Houston, been here for 25+ years, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have family, friends and many aquaintances and contacts I've aquired over those years - I know this city inside and out. If you feel this way about Corpus, I would stay - if not try the move Houston, it has lots to offer.

i live in Dallas now but, i would definitely move to H-town. For the simple fact that my 5 year old daughter lives there.

I've been to just about every major city in the US and still love living in Houston. Corpus is a nice small city, but when I visit there I get bored pretty quickly. Its just too small for me, and there isn't nearly as much to do.

You can still have it quiet and peaceful living in Houston, just move 15-20 miles outside of it like I did.

no there isnt as much to do, but its quiet. i think Corpus is one of the nicest cities in texas. i really want to take the plunge and move to houston, more opportunities. no to mention that i will get paid about 10-12K more for moving.

is all the expressway construction done with yet in houston? i have not been there in 2 years. i guess what really worries me the most is finding my way around.

construction is never finished. When they complete one section, they begin on another. They are adding several lanes to just about every freeway in Houston.

Keep in mind that it takes about an hour to drive across Houston, so just saying "moving to Houston" can mean a ton of different things. We have plenty of quiet areas surrounding the city, as well as heavily wooded areas.

If you guys are young and want to have fun while here, move to Midtown (near downtown) and enjoy. Its on a major uprising and redevelopment, I lived there a year ago and partied HARD. Thats going to be the best "big city" experience if that is what you are looking for.

Now I live in the woods, NE of Houston. I'm about 20 min from downtown, and have a drag strip about 3 miles away, and a lake down my street.

i am 28, i am not much of a party person. i am more subtle. i was looking at houses in houston on the net, i love the woodlands(is that correct?)seems to be peaceful. what areas do you recommend? houston has so many mini- cities, i wanna know which areas are nice all around. looking for a house less than $140,000 in a community were time almost stops(kinda like corpus).

Nice areas (and you will most likely pick based on your job location)

NE - Atascosita, Summerwood, Kingwood
NW - anywhere north of beltway 8. Or up I45 to Woodlands
W - Katy
SW - Sugar Land
S - Friendswood, Clear Lake
E - East Houston kinda sucks, I work there. Mostly industrial. You would have to go 30 miles East to Baytown before it looks okay. Houston Raceway Park is in Baytown.

I have a home in Sugarland area that I am selling. The market price is $110,000 but I'll sell it for 105,000 without an agent. Thsi home was built in 2003 it is nice and new.

Call Steven 832-646-5668 or e-mail hurst_steven@yahoo.com if interested. I have a guy at the bank that can get you approved for a loan if needed.

i work in construction of houses and if i were you i would try to look for an older home, built before 1970.

The newer houses are just crap compared to the pre 1970 houses.

Now a days its all rush rush rush to try to get the house in time, in the older days people actually put their effort and quality into making the house. If you dont belive me for example just go into the attic of an older house youll see nothing but 2X12's all over. go into the attic of a newer house all 2x4's and youll be lucky if you get a few 2x6's
