I agree. Scott Boras is BAD for baseball, just like the Yankees. Scott Boras needs his a$$ rung up and beaten by a nice louisville slugger!
I hope Beltran bombs in New York and admits his agent made a mistake.
I like the Astros and the fact that they made an effort to spend a 100 million. Beltran is definately not worth 20 million a season.

Bottom line is that Beltran is ALL about the money and Scott Boras is a complete A$$.

Houston did all we could to sign him... we made a hell of an offer. 105 million for 7 years is way more then what he is worth, muchless 130 million for 7 years which is what the Mets reported offering. Beltran is a good player, but is in no way worth anywhere close to 130 million. I hope the Mets enjoy him for 7 more years.

He was a good player and signing him was crucial to us doing anything for the next two years... but this proves once again that Scott Boras can overinflate player value and destroy team loyality. I wish more teams followed the Chicago White Sox's policy of not neogitating with Scott Boras clients.

Mets have always been a shitty organization, and now with 2 overpaid players. They were a sub .500 team last year that won 71 games... and they won't make it to the playoffs this year.

It sucks he won't be with us now... but you can bet I will be at the first Astros Mets game to yell at him. I hope he hits .250 this season... Shea is a lot different the Minute Maid.

to all of that. But especially that last part, I'm there for the first game, booing my *** off. I really hope he flops this year, he's not worth that much.

well you really cant blame Boras, i am sure we would all do the best to make the most money for ourselves. that is his job, granted he is a douche bag, even beltran said he loved playing in houston. it would be awesome if houston could pick up sammy sosa, i read that he is unhappy in chicago. and everyone ones that the astros is a "classy" team, he might like it in houston.

Sosa+Houston=bad idea. Any player that doesn't seem worth it to suit up for the last game of the season isn't worth our time. Plus, he had a very Bagwell kinda year last year: mediocre.

Yeah i think his agent had a lot to do with it but Beltran also saw more money in the Mets. What a shitty team to play for they have nothing going for them. Big lose for us and big gain for Mets.

Have either of them signed with anyone yet? Did we lose our rights to sign them again? Not that they would sign with us again... just wondering.

Jeff Kent signed with L.A.
Miller signed with the Red Sox.

Kent and Miller........

What does Kent have...one good year. Talk about a washed up second baseman. I think he just gave up waaay to many times in the effort catagory in the field.

Miller.....If I was him, I would want the hell out too if I got pushed back to the #4 starter and had a chance to go 2 or 3 somewhere else.

Get over it, this is baseball and all these teams change every year. What we need to be concerned with is that Bagwell can't throw a ball to an 8 year old 5 feet away. Face it, him and Bigg are really not helping the team anymore. This loyalty to them has got to stop sometime if you want to build a team. Do they have some kind of secret contract that keeps them until they are 50????

Kent...Washed up?
This season's stats for Kent
avg. .289
rbi 107 (team leading)
HR 27
doubles - 34
runs - 96

All he wanted was a 2 year deal. He wasn't asking for more money. Our cheap asses would only offer him a 1 year deal w/ a 2nd year option.
Yeah. He's getting older, but he played some damn good ball this year and didn't seem to tire out toward the end of the season.

Milller...
Of course he will/would be moved to the #4. Clemens, Pettitte, and Oswalt are/were his fellow pitchers. They are all 20 game winners. It's just a rotation. He'd still get to be a starting pitcher.

Unhappy

Beltrran is an AWESOME player no doubt, but he is NOT the entire team. Giving him 119 million and a NO TRADE CLAUSE is entirely too much for any one player.... Houston and Drayton made a VERY generous offer, but Beltran would have been an idiot not to take an offer with a NO TRADE CLAUSE, he could blow out both knees not play again and STILL collect the money. That is too much to pay for anyone. Sucks to be the Mets. We should have focused on resigning Kent and Miller, but all is not lost, we just have to wait and see what pans out. Teams have won the WS with less payroll but awesome chemistry which the Astros had last year. In my opinion losing Kent, Clemens, and Miller will hurt MUCH more than losing Beltran. Bagwell should have been unloaded 2 or 3 years ago, but Biggio still gets it done.

Wade Miller has rotator cuff issues, I am glad we let him go considering the money he would have gotten.

I'm totally aware of the season stats for Kent. Yes, they were great and he showed up for a game or two in the playoffs. But what the hell.....What kind of club are we building here? The Silver Bullets, or a major league baseball team? How many years are we gonna keep guys that have lost a step on this team. Gotta get some new blood in here and just prepare for a rebuild. Like I said, if you had a chance to move up in a rotation, wpuld you....YES. Baseball is a TEAM fan sport but an INDIVIDUAL player sport. It's all about the $$$$ something you and I don't have. Otherwise we would have season tickets in the good seats huh!!!!! That's it next time I see you in Casa Ole' I'm stealing your hot sauce!!!!

Anyone who doubts Boras is a slimeball should read this story. Richard Justice is a good guy and he does his homework. I met him when I was working at the Chronicle and he is one of the more down-to-earth writers.
