S.A.M students inside please....
Just wanted to know what this experience for you guys has been..... She showed me how much it was going to cost...... ITS NOT CHEAP..... but i think it is worth it.... So how difficult is this program.... what do you guys recommend...????
The CNC class isnt available yet to my knowledge till the new portion of the building is added.
HOWEVER, if you're willing to take advantage of every situation around you at the school, you're going to put yourself in a position to do very well. I talk personally with former SAM students who now work in the industry (These aren't jokers either. These are people who work for Pro-Stock/NASCAR shops, along with places like Kuntz & Company) and they all told me one thing, YOU'LL GET OUT OF THE SCHOOL WHAT YOU PUT IN.
If you show up early and stay late and get involved in every way possible, you'll learn so much more.
The other piece of advice is to try to get a job somewhere in the industry. Find a local machine shop and see if they need anybody to tear down motors. You would be supprised who they'll hire. I've been working at Owens Racing Engines in Pearland for about the last 6 months and it's been awesome. I get to see race-motors go together every day. I started out tearing down motors and cylinder heads, and slowly I started getting to machine and do some of the assembly. Real world experience is in-valuable.
If you've got any specific questions feel free to PM me.
I have no idea, as to what I will do for the rest of my life... and this is a very important decison in my life..... My cousin has planted that small idea into my head..... and i think I might go ahead and attend SAM.....
Can any of you guys point me in the right direction as to where i can get more information about costs, the programs available, tours, etc.....
You can call 713-683-3817 , and theyl send you out a information packet. (Which most of it I found is on that site itself. http://www.samracing.com/docs/catalogue/SAM.htm (disregard the pictures, much has changed since they were taken!)
As for Tours, when I had toured the school the first time I had basically called the school and they had said to come down at any time , so I just showed up. (Although 12:30-1:30 is their lunch break)
Come visit the school, talk to the staff as well as the students that are there, and you will get a better feel if thats the right place for you.
Hope this helps.
