I am building a 67 camaro, but installing an LT1. I am in the DFW area and looking for some contacts. First a good place to find a t56 used. Second a good machine shop to do some port work etc.. My old machinist retired and sold his shop, so I've lost contact with the machining world. Someplace that specializes in 4th gen camaro parts would be helpful. My car is going together with as many newer model GM parts as possible. I've always had 1st gen. Camaros so I am not in the circle of contacts for 4th gen. stuff.

Yeah, theres a couple, but which ones are in the dallas-fort worth area. I am looking for the word of mouth good work and parts. A good machine shop that people on this forum have used. A good machinist is hard to find.

fastech, while not a sponsor is great with go-fasts, especially f and y bodies. do a web search. LGM would be another good choice, just more expensive.

Skip the LT1 & put a LS1 in it, you WON'T regret it! Unless you are running N2O, then go with the iron 6.0L block instead They are cheap now days, no optispark and make great power even with just a few well combined modifications.

I've never used his services but Kim Barr in Garland is supposed to do good head work. There's also Rerher/Morrison(sp) in Dallas and Hans Fuestell also. Wayne Calvert in Denton did the machine work on my motor.

Yeah, I've worked with david reher of reher morrison. That's bigtime money to even talk to those guys. I'll check out some of the machine shops you guys listed. I am looking for a good home town machine shop with good communication and prices.
I got a good deal on the LT1, I pulled it and the 4l60e from a wrecked impala ss with 62k mi. for $400. and got to take everything I wanted. I sold the trans. and would really like to have a LS1/M6, but there's always that budget thing. If you have any ideas of trades + cash for the LS1 let me know.

My brother & I did this with his 67 Camaro. We stuck a LT4 in it. He is doing body work & the computer work on it now. No too hard of a swap to do, most of it will bolt right up.

Yeah thats why I like the LT1. I'm from the old holley carbureted small block train of thought. So the LT1 is still relatively a simple small block. I can put r&p steering behind the crossmember, bolt normal headers on, and bolt it right in. I'm seriosly looking for a good priced t56 for it now.
