Default is it true

if you time an 1/8 mile time by 1.57 it equals an 1/4 mile time

There is a formula that has a few more decimal places than that, and it only gives you an estimate of what you will run. It is not precise.

I'm not too sure, but I think that's the right number used in calculations. The number varies for nitrous, supercharger, and turbo cars.

And as stated above, it gives you an ESTIMATE, it is not exactly what you will run.

You will also have to take in aerodynamics my truck will do alot better in the 1/8 versus the 1/4 mile. Don't forget gear ratio's also.

There is no formula that will work for every car. But you can come up with your own when you run the 1/4. This way u can figure out what u would have ran if you ran the 1/4 instead of the 1/8

There's no way any formula could be considered anything more than an estimate. There are too many factors involved - someone mentioned aerodynamics already, and many more come into play. Sure, that number is a universally-accepted formula for a good guess, but it can't account for all the potential during the second 660 feet of track.

1.56 will be pretty darn accurate for a car, but it is not the same for a truck.

The calculation for my truck is closer to the 1.50 mark from 1/8th to 1/4.

The multiplication factor is off some but not to bad. Most of your acceleration in the 1/4 is accomplished in the first 1/8th mile so it's off some. My car ran a 9.23 in the 1/4 on a 5.90 1/8th. So you can see that 5.90 X 1.57=9.262 while 9.23/1.57=5.878.

I had heard and read 1.55 was the multiplier. FWIW

We all know that using a formula is just an estimate, be the multiplier 1.54, 1.57, etc. whatever. Guess I could go through my hundreds of timeslips and test it, but I really have other things to do with my time.
