Default May move to Houston soon. Couple of questions

I may be moving to Houston in a few months depending on a number of factors. I know there is a huge F-body scene down there. I have a couple of questions.

1. What is the name of the local F-body club and what is the website?

2. If I move down there what areas are ghetto and which are nicer areas. I dont want to end up accidentally moving to pure ghetto.

3. Is it really as hard as I hear it is to get around town. I hear its the worst traffic in the nation and its just bumper to bumper all hours of the day. That really sucks but its something I can live with.

I know I will have many more questions but those are a few off the top of my head.

Edit: I forgot there is a Texas section. Feel free to move it if you want mods.

1. There really isn't a club. Just go to the Texas Section of this site.

2. It depends on which side of town you move to. Get an idea of where you want to live and we'll let you know.

3. Rush hour traffic is a bitch, and there is never ending construction on I-10, but other than that, it's not so bad. You get used to it after a while.

There are a LOT of good locations to live in houston. You have little "towns" outside of the houston city limits. Kingwood, Friendswood, clearlake, Sugarland, jersey village, the woodlands are just some VERY nice places to move.

Traffic is bad, but it is bad during the usual hours. Sometimes when an accident occurs you have the natural rubber necks slowing you down.

as for the car scene! just try either the Texas section here...

www.htownracing.com <-- kind of slowing down but a nice site

and

www.houstonperformancedriving.com <-- very bad *** site with A LOT of bad *** cars. That site is all about going to car meets, ligning up cruises, car trips to lake conroe etc. I suggest you join up and see what it is about.

Good luck with the move if you choose it. It is not as bad as some people make houston out to be...

FWIW, I just moved here from Wisconsin, and *love* it. Sure, the traffic is a bitch - like nothing I've seen before. And navigating a new city has brought on some frustration at times, but I'm getting adjusted. The biggest secret I found out was to learn what the traffic patterns are, and try to avoid them if you can. Oh yeah, and I've been lucky so far, but I'm told that people do carry guns down here, so keep the road-rage in check.

As for what locations to avoid, the few that I know of are Montrose (FOR SURE!!!), an area called Fifth Ward, parts of The Heights, and some of Pasadena (then again, everywhere I've been taken to in Pasadena was nice, so....). There are little ghettos salted in amongst the rest of the city too, so it's like anywhere else - ask and look around before you move in.

Car scene? I'm proud to say that NOBODY in the nation has what H-Town's got for a car scene. If you can't make friends down here, you're either not getting out or just not compatible with society. In a town with 4 million people, there's always something going on and someone to hang out with.

Oh, and one more thing.... As much as Mapquest (and the related sites) try to stay current with roads/highways, I *have* been screwed because an exit USED to exist, but doesn't anymore. They also don't take into consideration the traffic, so the best directions are always from someone who knows the city.

No Job transfer... Bro moved down here in '98, and has been trying to convince me ever since. Finally, when the economy sucked so bad that I couldn't find work, I decided there's nothing up there anymore. So, in March, I hopped a plane and came down. Although I haven't been able to get hired until VERY recently, I was at least able to find side-work to put cash in my pocket from time to time. Seems there's always someone who needs a website or has a computer problem somewhere.

all these people who are saying houston's traffic isnt that bad are idiots...it sucks, constantly

and depending on what area you will be working in and such there will be a nice cummunity within 15 min. houston is actually a pretty nice place to settle down, good neighborhoods almost in every area

Traffic is ALWAYS bad in houston. Sometimes, i like to just drive out to the country to just get away from all the traffic. So nice to just have 1-2 cars on the road as opposed to bumper-bumper non-stop. I-10 is one of the worst. The beltway gets pretty backed around i45 during rush hour.
