Headers/y-pipe
Headers/y-pipe I am considering long tube headers for my '00 SS, but I can't decide if I want to go with an off road y or a catted y. If I do the headers, I am also going to change out the cam with something in the mild to average category. Anyone in the Dallas area running a similar set up? I would like to hear a car with an off road y before I go through with my plans. I just don't want a loud, obnoxious car. Any thoughts, suggestions? I have a Borla cat-back system.
I have QTP longtubes w/a 3" hi-flow catted Y and SLP Loudmouth, it sounds bad *** and it'll pass inspection no problem. IMO you should get the cats, it's not like they're taking that much power and you won't have to worry about inspections. My $0.02 
I went with cats for two big reasons: sound and inspection. I don't like getting hassled by the police about my exhaust, so having cats means they can look all they want and can't write me a ticket for smog violations. Now, speeding, on the other hand...
As for the sound, I've got Pacesetter LT's, a TSP catted y-pipe, and a Magnalfow catback, and it is EXACTLY the sound I was going for. Agressive, but not obnoxious. One of these weekends, I'll get off my lazy *** and record it for www.ls1sounds.com. The only thing I would do different would be to get cats and then have a y-pipe fabricated. The TSP pipe hangs a little too low for my tastes, and I've been fighting it for a while now. If you can find a good muffler shop that is willing to work with you and get you a good setup, you won't regret it.
