I didn't read all of the responses, but I'd recommend small claims court.

I understand that concern, but it's not a valid reason to drop the matter. We shouldn't be afraid to stand up for our rights against these kinds of people. You did the work, so he should pay up. That is his obligation, and his guns or bullets aren't going to deter people from allowing him to get his way. As I mentioned, you should pursue it in a business like manner. Don't get angry or lose your cool. If this guy owed money on his credit card or electiricty/taxes, do you think other service providers would hold back from pursuing him because word has it he sells guns and bullets? **** him and his bullets -- he isn't going to do anything because you are trying to collect your money in a professional manner. He has to pay you, whether he likes it or not. If it were someone who was more menacing, I don't think he would pull this crap because he would risk getting his knee caps broken. In any case, don't let this guy cheat you out of your hard work.

Whatever you decide to do, in the future DO NOT do any work until you have your client sign a contract. You should make sure to receive at least 50% of your fee *before* starting any work. And if you find out someone deals with guns or generally gives you a bad vibe, do not do business with them.

I knew being in law school would help out sometime or another.... Contracts...for those of you who are saying verbal agreements are binding in the state of texas, you need to watch out and not believe all the cliches...this whole problem will go back to the conversations you had before building. If there was an offer for you to build, an an acceptance from you to build, and the money was set out, and no stipulations were made to the effect that "i dont have to pay if i dont like it' then he owes you the money. you entered into a binding contract, and you would win in any court. pm me if you want more information. you can tell this guy you had a contract and if he does not pay up, it will be taken to court. dont do anything stupid like going and knocking it down, because then you'd have to pay for tresspassing (which does have monetary damages) as well as the destruction of the property.

If you go onto his property to remove an addition that is permanantly fixed to his house, than he may have a legal right to use force to remove you. I would not recommend any trespasses onto his property to do anything stupid, and I can't stress the stupid part enough.

Scarano has had the best response so far, if you are not willing to go through the proper channels to recover the costs of this project than you should not have embarked on it in the first place. If you knew he was a little crazy, why did you enter into a contract with the guy, especially without writing anything down? Sounds like you knew what you were getting into, sorry to say.

Go after it the legal way, or drop it. Every other option will get you in more trouble than you will care to deal with. Especially if the guy is crazy like you've mentioned.

It sounds like to me that yall have an oral contract. And that is binding in TX. I'm in a business law class and we just talked about it. The only thing about that now is that yall are going to be doing the he said she said crap.

If he does not think he owes us $400, the least he can do is pay up $200. That will equal one of my Hoosiers. I want to burn that sucker down, but I need to control myself.
They don't sell guns or ammo on ebay, perhaps gunbroker.com?

Either way, did you or did you not have a written contract? If not what were the conditions?
