Default Bryan/CS Help needed

Alright, basically I need some suggestions on where to take my car to get it worked on. I already know dealerships, so I wanted to know of any shops that people might have experience with.

This will be the first and hopefully last time it has to go, its got an electrical problem somewhere causing a no start condition. Already pulled starter and tested it, checked fuses and battery, and then replaced the ignition switch (a bitch of a job) to no avail, so this is beyond my know how. Ive got a volt meter, but Im in the dark as how to use it properly.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated- its a 93 z28.

I am assuming the definition of no start is that it will not turn over correct? Is the security light flashing during the attempt? If yes lock cylinder. I have had the factory starter interupt relay for the Vats go bad on a few cars in the shop. Do you have any type of nonfactory alarm. Is the problem intermittent or is it dead in the water. I work at an audio shop here in town so if you need a hand drop me a line. If I dont have the tool snap on doesn.t make it. Or if you wnat to go to a shop Sevciks Texaco on longmire is hands down best and honest outside of tom light. Later

^^^^Full story: Since I got this car every now and then i would go to start it and I would here the solenoid click, but it would not crank (no pattern to it, random all the time). I learned to just let it sit for awhile and it would always eventually crank and start. So this last time it happened I let it sit, tried it a few times, and on the last try I heard the solenoid click and then a fizz like when you open a coke can, and no cranking/start. Now the solenoid doesn't click, its dead in the water.

Does have an aftermarket alarm, but i honestly don't think that is the problem, never was in the past, and the security light does not come on.

Thanks for the tips though, and i might end up having to call you or something if i cant figure it out.

Where did the fizz sound come from underhood or dash. It could be a ground or just a bad battery. We could tell real quick up close it's just hard to diagnose without putting your hands on it.

Where are you at man, we can all come over and take a look at it. It sounds like maybe your solenoid took a dump, if the fizzing came from under the hood. Let us know.

he put a new solenoid on it a couple days ago and i made him get the starter checked out. definitley not a VATS problem. he picked up a multi-meter but hasn't checked out the wire from the battery to the starter (at least to rule it out, low possibility but need to do it).

i'm almost 100% it's somewhere in the remote wire. it's a good amount of wire to follow and test out and i dont' have the gm service manual but will does.

i'm free tomorrow after 1 pm all day and if u wanna do some testing or need will's number just gimme a shout and i'll run u through it.

If it is not getting signal to the starter during crank the factory starter interupt relay for the vats could be bad. It will not make the security light flash either bc the vats has give a systems go command. Is it an auto or a stick. Check your park neutral switch. The wire runs from the ign switch through the p/n switch through the factory vats starter diasble then changes to purple and runs out to the starter. A bad cable could be the root of all evil too. It can show power but not be able to handle load.

Its an auto, I did try to start it in neutral but still got nothing. Im not knowlegeable enough with this voltmeter to know how to use it/interpret the results to run the checks. Where is the starter interupt relay for the vats located?

do something as simple as tap om the starter sylinoid while someone trys to crank it. real simple and eventhough you replaced the sylonoid does not mean it is good. i could also help you but it has to be after 6 when i get off work. just holla i think you know brandon and he can get ahold of me.

Damm if I can remember I'll have to check alldata at the shop tomorrow. Pop the top on the center console and see if you are getting 12v out on the purple wire.
