the problem is you don't have a pit. My female pit has pissed inside one time in 3 years. When we moved into our current house she figured out the back door thing on the first day. When she needed to go, she sat by the door and barked. It helped that we had another dog and she copied him, but still. He marks his territory now and then. Both dogs were crate trained, not rubbing of snouts or anything.

Moral of the story, get a pit to eat the Chihuahua. Then you don't have a girly dog, and train him to pis outside

J/K

Crate training is the best from what I have heard.

Get rid of the carpet. A dog will smell where it has peed before, even if you've cleaned it already. There is something they sell at Petco and Petsmart in a spray bottle that eliminates those odors that they can pick up even though we cant. The dog is smelling where its peed aready and being one -tracked minded, they will think ' oh its okay, ive gone there before. its my potty spot. '

My lab, even having free run of the backyard, still will only poop and pee in one corner of the yard, no where else. But i suggest using the spray, and if it doesnt work, i suggest removing that carpet.

Angus. Scrappy and Daisy own you. All good pet owners are "owned" by their pets.

If your dog is still a puppy, crate training is the best for her and you. Next, her bladder hasn't fully developed. It will take until she is maybe 6 months old to be able to "hold it" for any amount of time. She isn't stupid. She is just a baby. It will take her time. I'm sorry that you live on the third floor, but she needs to be taken out after she wakes up and after she eats. Also as often in between as possible.

I don't believe in the pads. My dogs always just chewed them up.

Good luck.

You have to be patient, Their little minds develop and they get smarter as they grow, just like children. Use a lot of positive reinforcement, that way they learn that going oustide is a good thing, and teach her the word oustide, they will learn. I have a 3yr old femal lab, she was easy to train, but we had a few accidents at first, but she was kenneled for about 8mos. But little puppies have to go outside usually ever 1-3 hrs, dpending on diet, etc, especially after u play, they get all excited, and just go. Training dogs isn't easy,My dog has never seen a trainer, people ask that though, just be patient and remember to be VERY CONSISTENT with your traing methods, dogs and cats are routine oriented. Seek help if needed, petsmart has good traing courses that u take with other pet owners, plus its good for your dog so it learns to be with other animals and people.

I have a German Sheppard about 1 year old now and she learned in about 3 days, lol! Now GS are smart dogs, smaller dogs tend to learn slower. You have to praise and reward when they pee/poop outside. Positive enforcement works good here. When they go inside you can let them know your upset(not hitting but yelling NO!!!) All dogs can learn these things with some time spend on them. They are like kids, I still have to watch mine around napkins paper because she loves to shread it!

yeah we have 2 half chihuahua/yorkshire terrier's.

They from time to time will still **** in the house, although not often; however we do take them outside often, usually just let them out time to time during the day and once at night, and when we wake up.

after my first dog being a larger than usual black lab i figured i would never like small dogs, but they're kool too, definetly worth the work IMO

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT get stuck on using potty pads. That is the worst mistake i ever made and now i am paying for it in paper towles and pee cleaner. I have a 1 year old weinnie dog and we thought that because she was so small ( only 4 lbs full grown) that we should just train her to use potty pads because she would not be able to hold it all day long while we were at work. WRONG!!! I wish i would have just sucked it up and crate trained her in the first place. Small dogs seem to be very stubborn and will look you in the eye while they pee on the carpet in front of you. I am now in the process of crate training her although now this late in the game it is very hard ( much harder than it would have been in the first place ). You just have to find a good spot in the yard for the dog to go on and take it out often.
Good Luck

Sorry took so long to answer. Yeah, i know at any time she could go, bad thing is my girlfriend has a solid white 9 year old boxer too. They have always been more aloof than anything, but she still gets hyper and has a getup in her step, especially come feeding time. The only time I really have to worry about her going inside the house is when I give her alergy shot. Something that has developed late in her years, but its only like once every other month.

I agree with what Racer88 said in his first post completely.

Puppy pads promote peeing inside. Take you pet out after every major activity. I havev been in the vet field since I was 16, and I have a Rott that still has accidents. Part of that is my fault because I am so busy and forget about her. It just takes time.

Crate training means keep the dog in a dog crate except to come out to eat, to play and to train them where to go to the bathroom.

Make sure play time is after potty time which is after crate time. They will let you know when they have to go out if you keep them in the crate. You can't keep them in there 24/7 because they are puppies and they have to play a lot too under your supervision. But after some play and at night keep the dog in the crate.

Another method that "Guide Dogs" uses is a "tie-down". That is a short cable, 18-24 inches that fastens to an eye bolt in the floor. Works just like the crate in that the dog is contained in one spot. Make sure puppy is warm and comfortable.

Good luck, and be patient because it can be pretty frustating. Especially at night because they will want out a couple of times every night until they are 3-4 months old.

Remember it is just a baby so hitting it is the last thing to do no matter how mad you get.

Yeah, and the same can be used but only in Kennel Training. Get them a kennel large enough that once they are full grown, they can sleep in there. My 2 Boxers willingly sleep in their kennels every night, and we leave the doors open for them. But dogs do not like to potty where they live, thus they will let you know when they need to go.
