Gold SS sighting
NO Gold Z HAD one!! Thats my car now. He now drives an 02 NBM Z.
Tony the actual numbers on SGM in 98 are:
1,399 camaros or 2.9%
SS coupes - 29
SS verts - 7
Z28 coupe - 301
Z28 verts - 72
the rest were v6 coupes and verts.
There were two more rare colors that year Purple (433 cars - 0.9%) and believe it or not Light Pewter (63!! - 0.0%) Its 0.0% because they were ALL driven by GM employees in order to allow the color to be available at start-of-production in 1999, also none were SS.
AND SGM was made in 1999. ONLY 5!!!!!!!!!!!!! were made. While Sport Gold was discontinued near the end of the model run in 1998, a contract had been signed between Chevrolet and Days Inn for a sweepstakes where the final prize was a Sport Gold Z28 Coupe. While the sweepstakes ran in the spring and summer of '98, the contract specified a 1999 Z28. Thus Ste. Therese built 5 1999s for this sweepstakes. Two units were given away, the other three were driven by GM executives and then disposed of through the GM auction system.
Found this kinda interesting AND very depressing... One of the 5 1999 Sport Gold metallic Z28 coupes has been located in the Chicago area, severely damaged with 17,396 miles on the odometer (this was from May 2000).

Oh hell I knew I'd seen that car before, you have Johns old car, I remember when he was selling that car, I talked to him about buying it. His NBM Z is nice also, pretty quick.

Numbers were correct... years made wrong, most rare SS color in 98 wrong (Teal was ONLY 1 SS vert was made, none in the coupe). If ya want to get real technical tho Pewter, Green, Purple and Ceyenne were cuz they didnt offer any 
!! And if ya find a Gold vert tho, Ill be headin ur way!!
