01 Silverado Question

01 Silverado Question Well have a coolant leak and got the low coolant light today!
Looked for the leak when i got home and didnt find any leaks from the hoses or connectors. However i couldnt see **** cause all the intake and fan shroud in the way However i did see some fluid on the bottom of what looked like the water pump. Is there anything I should look for and where should I look. What should i remove or move out of the way so I can actually tell where the leak is coming from.
I searched and found that most of the problems stem from the water pump / gaskets in water pump.
The truck is an 01 with the 5.3L and has 80K on it. Guessing its the water pump

I would 2nd the water pump. I had a similar incident with my truck. It was the water pump. Water pump is fairly inexpensive and pretty simple to change out. I only had 77K on mine when it was leaking.

I have a 02 Silverado & my truck will give me a Low Coolant light sometimes too. I can't figure out why, I have looked for leaks & never find any. I rarely get the light. But it happens to me also. So your not alone!

If theres no leaks, With the LT1s when they did that it ended being a bad filler neck sensor.

Well i was look again tonight and its definantly coming from water pump area around where the thermostat is. I can see it accumulating there and then dripping down. I dont see any other places its dripping from so i will have to dig into it and make sure its acutally the culprit.

Well changed the water pump gaskets as that is what is usually the problem I was told by a GM tech. Well that fixed the problem for a day. Back leaking this time out of the weep hole. Get to waste another morning ****** with that PIECE OF ****!

On my Camaro when it was coming out of the weep hole I just replaced the pump and that fixed it. Don't get discouraged. At least you are doing the work yourself and not paying someone.

Well hopefully its fixed now. Bought a new pump from Advance auto and it went on pretty smooth. No leaks yet and ive put about 10 miles on it. Be able to better tell tomorrow after driving to work. Hopefully no more leaks though. Sick of smelling like coolant. Thanks for the help!
