Pluto Demoted..A Texas twist
In case you hadn't heard, a meeting of 2,500 astronomers voted to remove Pluto from the list of planets. Basically they decided it's a big rock way out there in space, along with other rocks, some of them bigger than Pluto. So now we have 8 official planets in out solar system. Here's the Texas Twist...
Taken from the Houston Chronicle website this morning:
If Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage didn't exist, somebody would have to invent him. Here's another example.
On a busy Friday with races this weekend at Bristol (NASCAR), Infineon (Indy), Montreal (Champ Car) and Indianapolis (NHRA), Gossage sent an e-mail, weighing in on his utter disbelief at the Pluto situation — and plugging the Dickies 500 at TMS on Nov. 5.
"A day after the planet Pluto was disowned by the world's astronomers, Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage is embracing the former baby in the solar system's nine-planet pantheon.
"In honor of the planet formerly known as Pluto, Texas Motor Speedway will give residents of Pluto a free ticket to the Dickies 500. The ticket would be for the 2015 or 2016 Dickies 500 since it is a 3 billion-mile trip that takes roughly 9 1/2 years in the New Horizons spacecraft.
"Pluto race fans must show a photo ID with a proof of residence at the TMS ticket office to be eligible for a Dickies 500 ticket."
