Need help with my beater car!!!
Day after I bought it, I had a brand new cat welded on (the old one was rattling/coughing up crap). I also changed the brakes (down to 10% life) and also changed the fuel filter (looked near original).
Here's the problem: Car runs okay until you try to give it 1/2 throttle or more. Going up a hill, it starts sputtering like it is starving of fuel. That's one reason I replaced the fuel filter. I thought it was clogged.
If it were the fuel pump, the grade of the road should not matter, right? It is only under hard load that it sputters, and then it just cuts in and out. I would have also thought the clogged/dead cat. conv. would make it do that, but since that is a week old now, it can't be the problem.
Any ideas what it might be? This car is pretty easy to work on, but I need to get it on the road and start saving on gas. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks
Jeremy
Check ur spark plugs/wires, I didn't change mine on that car until 80k. Could be a mis fire. Those cars are so EASY to work on!
Plugs/wires are easy enough. Have you checked the air filter? I pulled mine out one day and it looked like the sahara in there lol.
do all the routine stuff, plugs, wires if the mileage warrants, o2 sensors, air filter, etc. toss a bottle of techron or seafoam into the gas tank. i always try to rule out the dumb **** first before worrying about the expensive parts... the injectors might be clogged to the point of running fine at low throttle, but cant meet the demand of high throttle/high load conditions.
