Default Can anyone fix this?

Hey guys, I have SLP longtubes and amazingly one of the primaries on the pass. side is crushed. Can this be fixed? Can someone fix it for me or can i fix it myself? I have access to stainless steel specified wire in a mig welder. I was thinking of drilling a small hole and taking a body man's slam hammer and pulling the dent out? Any one care to voice an opinion on this?

Thanks, Brady

I did something similar to a pair of FLP longtubes that had a large indentation near the collector. I used a torch to heat up the metal and carefully pushed it out with a chisel and hammer. This will probably create a little turbulence, but it definetely beats buying a new set of longtubes.

do not drill any holes.. go to a local (good) body shop and pay a body man to fix. they can use a stud gun that tacks little brass studs on the tube and then they use a slide hammer to pull out. once out the brass studs are sniped off. clean and better repair.

I tried that on a set of hookers I had a long time ago......didn't work. If they are a decent set of headers, the metal is too heavy for the pins to pull the tubing out.

I think Autozone has tailpipe expanders for rent. I don't know if they'd have a 3" one, but you should try. Or, you could buy one from a place like Northern Tool, which is one of our fine sponsors--------->

Northern Industrial Tools Tailpipe Expander — 2 1/8in. to 3 7/16in

Just slip that biatch in there and start cranking.

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful responses but I think some of you have the wrong idea of where the kink is located. It is smahed on one of the primaries about 12 inches in front of the collector. The tubing is pretty thick so i dont know how easy it will be to expand while the metal is cold. I will go outside in a little while when it warms up and snap a few pics. If it were mild steel i could fix it easily but im not sure about the stainless. BTW, if there is any way possible to keep the header on the car during the repair, that would help because the pass. side header is nearly impossible to get on.

Guess I should read a little more carefully. I was thinking the collector was smashed. Good luck with the fix!
