you know, I really wonder HOW many job out there pay JUST the minimum wage for their laborers. Is it just food and grocery and mall employees? A small business owner above said he doesn't pay his lowest workers minimum wage. Wonder if they could change the system that is based on age for minimum wage? Don't know, just throwing it out there.
I was managment at McDonald's as well when I was trying to finish my bachelors, and I found that no matter how much you paid your employees, they still didn't care!! Sometimes it's not about money.

I made minimum wage right out of HS while I was attending college. I was paid $5.15/hr and that was in 1995. It's about damn time it went up. I'm just glad gas was only about 85 cents a gallon back then. I would have been screwed if it was $2+/gallon, considering every weekend consited of a trip from the southside up to Westheimer.
the fact that the min. wage is so low, should be incentive for people to better themselves, and learn skills so they dont have to work for minimum wage. i understand that not every is lucky enough to have oppurtunity fall into their lap, but still...

Slayer is right, min wage is not supposed to support 3 kids and a mortgage.
It is to get you into the work force and get motivated to do better.
How many of us have worked something like that in school, as a first job, or something like that and said to ourselves "I gotta get out of here." That is the point.
Minimum wage isn't supposed to be a cheap labor subsidy. Having kids and being in a minimum wage job does not mean it should be raised.
You raise yourself, not the bottom bar.

A better idea would be to create a special tax for people with so little motivation in life that they will work for minimum wage. It could force money into a fund for themselves that must be used for education or can be claimed once they have achieved a self supporting income.
Help them help themselves. I wasn't even happy with that $5.15 back in high school in the 90's so I found a way to make a little more.

The main thing I was wondering is if the min mage goes up shouldnt every one elses go up? I dont make min ($6.83hr) so technically I should be close to $9 right?
