damn that sucks. same thing almost happened to us elaving steamboat springs a few years ago at about the same time in the morning. a heard of elk was crossing the road and they just stopped to stare at us. we thought they were gonna start stampeding, then they just kept on moseying across the road. those ******* are HUGE.

if he doesnt wanna pay, small claims court. good luck though, since the rental was in your name theyre gonna put it on you and its gonna be a tough battle.

What has YOUR insurance company said? My insurance company covers me driving a rental vehicle. IOW, I do not have to buy rental insurance.

It is your responsibility since you let him drive your rental truck. In situations like these, it is always best to put all the potential drivers on the rental bill. That said, Who gave the 9 grand estimate? The rental company? Laughable. My guess is that once you tell them that you can't afford that much, they might be willing to negotiate.

You could replace the whole van for 20 grand, I bet.

Usually when you went a van like that. THe person responsible has to be 25 years of age. Also needed is a major credit card, proof of insurance, and the optional insurance that rental car places have must be clearly stated to you. So if they want something they need to go after whoever's name the van is under. I use to work for Enterprise, and I hated it.

as far as coverage from your own policy, deer impacts are considered comprehensive coverage. If you didn't buy the comp coverage, you are screwed.

I agree what he said, looks like youre in deep ****.

The problem with that is some rental companies are now also charging for lost rental revenue when you wreck one of their vehicles, which your Insurance company may or may not cover.

It is more expensive, but in this day and age, it is much easier to simply pay the rental company for thir insurance rider, that way if somethign happens, you can just walk away, and not worry about it hitting your insurance permiums, or being liable for lost revenue or depreciated value claims.

Several of the larger auto insurers are recommending to their clients that they buy the extended coverage for exactly that reason.

some of thesmaller rental companies have started a policy of actually just charging your card immediately, and burying the permission for them to do that in the waiver language when you waive their offered insurance ..

It is all a big scam .. and just not worth the headache.

of course, none of this is necessary if your credit card provides this coverage ..

I would bet that your insurance wants proof it was that damaged enough to cost $9k. I bet is comes out far less than that. Someone is trying to make some $$$ off of you.

i still work for enterprise, been doing it for 5+ years, i like it but i'm only part-time.

all rental companies do this, and all the major insurance companies do not cover loss of use.
