Default Houston Machine Shops

I just about have all of the parts to put my new block together. What machine shops have yall used. I know of a machine shop in baytown that is a really good builder but not sure that he knows too much about LS motors. I want this one done right but don't know who to take it to. Any suggestions?

. hes been building and machining racing engines, lsx,SBC,BBC,sbf, bbf, turbo 6 buick motors, and so forth for years. highly recommended.

check hotrodgossip, and ask and youll recieve nothing but positive feedback from his work. He has built motors for pro stock, tt5 specs and so forth. his work takes time on turnarounds but get myword, his machining is the best so far in my eyes.

Erik Koenig is the best and building my new 408. I had LME do my first. But Erik is the master at this and he cares as a person. Will not go anywhere else. As for my Heads. I bought them from ET and Greg Good is the man on that. Sent them over to him and his is sweet. Can`t wait to see what my 408 does!

You can find Greg Good on LS1tech. He is the best with heads. He helped alot with my heads and went way out of his way to fix my problems. I thank Erik for introducing me to him.

Little Known Machine Shop Called Griggs Performance Engines.
Tim Griggs is a perfectionist and will not allow a performance engine to leave his shop if it is not right. He has built two very strong engines for me. One fairly stock and the other that puts to the wheels; turbo car; on just 348 c.i. 1167 RWHP on only 17ps1; no ice in the tank; and no lock up on a Mustang Dyno at Conley's. I have had tranny issues; brake issues; traction issues; but absolutely no issues with either engine.

Erik is a good engine builder. He and Cameron built the motor in Tommy's car. Erik is a sharp cat. Erik knows is way around the Ls1.

The shop in Baytown you are referring to I assume would be Automotive Machine. There are 4 LS1's in there right now. They do not specialize in performance work. But, they still do plenty of it. But, I don't say this lightly. I would put Paul's ability and attention to detail with any one I have ever dealt with. I am always in awe of his eye for detail, and for his ability to come up with unique solutions to problems.

Automotive machine is the one I was talking about. Jack has built a couple of motors for me and all of them have been very well built. I am not doubting their ability, but I do want someone with experience on an LS motor. For the money I am dumping into this motor it has to be done right, I cant afford to do it again right now.

One more for Eric Koenig. He did the work on my 408 that HPE assembled. They work very closely with him, hell he used to work out of their shop. I hear there are now more than one company in the area who is using him for their machining. If he is good enough for SAM then that has to say something!

Thats the truth. When I talked to him, he explained everything to me to where it made plenty of sence.

You should go where you obviously feel most comfortable. Again, we used Erik and Cameron on Tommy's motor. It has worked quite well for us. Erik has built a few motors for my buddy Chris, along with motors for a lot of site members. I have only good things to say about Erik. If you speak with Erik it is plainly apparent that he has a very strong command over what he is doing.

If you think you'd be more comfortable going with Erik, then I would advise you to go see Erik. I don't think you'd be making a bad choice, and ultimately its important to be satisfied in your decision.

You asked about the machine shop in Baytown, so I just wanted to provide what I felt was pertinent information. I have had a close relationship, and a strong association with Automotive Machine for about 22-25 years now. I would put their work against any shop I know of.

You asked about them having ls1 experience, so I wanted you to understand they have it. As stated there are 4 ls1's in there right now. This includes one stroker. But again, I think you need to go where you feel most comfortable. I feel very comfortable with AMS which is why I gave them my endorsement. I have personaly seen what they can do, and Paul's eye for detail is second to none in my opinion.
