Got a new project... VW Bug About 3 yrs ago my father past away and he had this VW bug in the back yard. A few weeks ago my mother told me that she heard some noise at night and the next morning took a look around and noticed some parts missing off the car. When I looked at it, it appeared that someone was trying to steal the top.
So, I hooked up the Z71 and brought it home. It doesn't have a motor and Im not sure if an LS1 will fit.
but I'll have fun working on it. The wife doesn't want me spending money on it, so it will be one of those long weekend projects.
Lots of RUST! !! ! !

thats a noice car, plus its a convertible, and parts for VW bugs can be had for CHEAP dude... i believe there are some VW experts on this site, maybe they can chime in on where to go/what to buy..etc
Used to be a place called blisterbug, they did Front engine conversions for V8s. Based in Big Spring i believe. I know a LS1 can fit man, there are LS1's in porsche 911's and that's not too diff lol...

Rear engine LS1? Good luck - I wouldn't want to try that - exactly because of what Orange said. The trans stuff scares me.
But I bet you could do a northstar swap much more easily, and still be RWD. But that probably misses the point, now doesn't it.
Too bad you dont have the old engine. Those old 1.6-2.0l VW/Porsche engines with dual Webers on them are fun as hell.

Those nasty little vw's like that have one hell of a following. My bro and I are building a Manx buggy and have gotten in pretty deep with bug's hunting for parts. Those little ragtop's like that are fetching some pretty good money even in parts condition. We bought a westfalia camper bus that was fully loaded for the engine and transaxle only. We paid 100$ for it when we were hunting some more parts at another guys house. I told hime what we had gotten the engine and all out of and he gave us 800 sight unseen for the shell. It had all of the foldout windows, generator, stove sink everything down to the original tacky **** green carpet. You may be able to make some pretty good money out of it vert bugs are all but non existent and impossible to find.

i always wanted to find one and take a 4.8 or something cheep and put the front drive trans on it out of a pontiac and put the motor in the rear. That would be fun as hell but would have to find a way to put some weight in the front. wheelies every were
