is this part of the radiator core (leak)? *pic*
posted this in general maintenance, but i figured i'd get a quicker response here...
car has been leaking coolant and the other day i saw it was around this area. steam and water was shooting out from here. is it a pump? i read on another thread the pump was right in front of the engine block. do i need to replace the entire radiator core?

Yes,
that is the plastic tank on the end of your radiator,
its probably cracked,
it probably only leaks, when your system gets hot and therefore has pressure,
you need to get it fixed, when you lose pressure like that, it lowers the boiling point of your coolant and will cause you to overheat, which could lead to more damage if you don't get it taken care of.
You should be able to take the radiator out yourself,
just be nice to everything, do it when the engine is cold,
expect to make a mess,
You can buy a new one at Oreilly's
or see if a radiator shop will put new tanks on the end of yours,
Make sure you burp your system, get all the air out when you get it going with the new one,
Its an easy fix,
but I would be a lil concerned that you might have had something else that caused the excess pressure and cracked your stuff,
Has the radiator been out recently? Is is a high mileage car?

Glad you're getting that taken care of now! Two summers ago I had a thermostat that wouldn't open. It was miserable whenever i was stuck on I-20 every 5 minutes waiting for it too cool so I could get to o'reilly's and replace it.
