it should have plaques inside on either the console or around the radio, maybe both. and there should be another plaque under the hood.

they can be faked

check the RPO codes, i believe its Y2Y and WU8 are the ones you want to

and the vin will call it a Z28, since it came from chevy a Z28 but was changed afterwards when modified by SLP into an SS

locate the build code decal on the inside of the driver's door jamb. Make sure the VIN# on that decal matches the car's VIN#, and then look for the code "WU8" on that decal. WU8 is the SS option package. No WU8, then it is a fake.

The decal will look like this, but have "WU8" in the series of codes. They are alphabetic, so it is easy to scan over quickly.

here's what my 01 SS looks like

I don't have any indicators other than the hood/wing/badges ... it was a cloth interior M6, the bezel on the radio just says camaro, and there is nothing under the hood that specifies anything either way as well.

stripper SS ftw

get the vin & call SLP or GM & ask them to run it. Im in the same situation and I another board member told me the exact same thing. Just for a referance, I called about the same camaro, its been wrecked and fixed by a dealership, and its been owned like 5 times. The first owner only had it 3-5 months. I was going to buy it but is seemed like it has seen alot.

You're wrong! lol

The Camaro SS plaque / Key Chains were an option:

Tony - (Nine Ball) covered it all:

....but that pic is for a WS6 Ram Air Trans Am from ASC not SLP.

You have the perfect example, the WU8 = SS and Y2Y = went to SLP.
Your car is pimp!!! Very few options on an SS, nice. Usually they are loaded out as far as GM options, and maybe a few SLP options.

Peace,
Craig.

Also notice that the SS example sticker above has the "Z28" included in it. Like someone above mentioned, all SS Camaros are also Z28s. But, no WU8 code, no SS.

My "SS Clone" was converted from Z status before purchase. I have a 2002 model so all the fancy stuff on the interior says 30 Anniversary Edition. The hood and spoiler really made an appealing difference and it helped keep me from having to shell out a hell of alot more money that the "SS" appeal is drawing today. You should be concerned more with previous vehicle owner/damage history. Trust me! I have seen some interesting ones after using carfax reports.

I've never seen a Sport Gold SS before, sounds pretty rare. Some people see pewter and call it gold though, just looks like dark silver to me.

They did build sport gold metallic SS's in 1998. Pretty rare car, they actually look pretty cool in that color.

thanks... I bought it through Allen Samuels (noticed your paper work spelled it wrong but from a Lexus Dealership up in Seattle... so my car is an original northern car... basically bought it sight unseen, worked about 3 weeks into it before it got the deal through and sold then shipped down... was worried after a little while, but I bought it March of 06 with 13,894 miles ... it's only SLP option aside from the badges/hood/spoiler? the ZR1's (which I prefer most times)... but the seats were all reupholstered in Classic Soft Trim when the car was bought at the dealership up north by the first customer, and I must say, after driving my Ex's 02 Z28 with stock leather, I much MUCH prefer the CST leather over the GM leather. It's so comfortable Looks nicer too IMO.

It still has less than 22k miles on it

stupid texas and driving so far to get anywhere (3 trips to brownsville, numerous to Austin and a few to various other areas certainly doesn't help that though)

edit ~ I'm glad as hell it was a stripper SS as well. I don't need loads of extra **** I won't use ... haha.
