water softner question??

water softner question?? I have a water softner that is about 5 years old. I just moved it to my new house about a year ago.It doesnt seem to be working as great as it used to.So I have a couple of questions. What should te hardness be set at it reads like from 10-300 I have it set on 20 default is 25 ppm I belive. Does the stuff in the tank go bad ? does it need to be changed out? And yes it is full to the top with salt. helllp I know nothing about these things ..And its an eco water softner if that helps.

Landers...Lets get this straight, u have this nice new home on 5 acres, lots of space a big pound and everything in it is new..n u bring that old used softner from ur other house...man u r a cheap sob...u should have just bought a new one..Damn and I thought I was bad
