The whistling isnt so bad cuz thats when you know they are flying over your head. Its when you hear the launch and no whistle and start feeling the booms get closer! The closest I had land to me was 145ft away. I was literally diving into a bunker at that time with nothing more than some gym shorts, slippers, and my helmet!
I was in Balad at Anaconda from 06-04 to 10-04. I had one land 50' away but luckily it was just on the other side of some concrete barriers. We had 6-7 mortars and 2 rockets hit 40-50 yards from our tent one morning at 6am. They came down over us and the thrust off the rockets woke me up..felt like somebody swung a big pillow right over me. They figured out where we were up-armoring the vehicles and began walking the mortars in on us right before we left (thanks to the Iraqis that were working on base I'm sure, who wouldn't show up the days we got hammered).

They're already here. They're called "sleeper cells." We have no defense against it, so we're screwed when they go active.

You noticed that too huh? There was always a group of men that would not show up for work on the days that we got hit. At first it seemed like a coincidence but after the 4th time, we started to figure it out. We got them all in one group one day and told them that if they ever took another day off and we got hit that day, that not only would we fire them but that we would beat the crap out of them first.

We had a lot of Secret Squirrels on my camps as they were Embassy camps and we would threaten the locals with them as they were all scared shitless of those guys. They wouldnt even look at them!

I dont think that we are screwed. I do think that you will see much more racial profiling if that were to take place and whether the man was Arab or Indi, if he had an accent and praised Allah, they will be locked up or shot. Especially down here in the south. Now they might get away with that crap up north or in California but if that crap happens here in Tx, I bet many of us who are already shining up our guns for Sept 1st will have no problem herding them up!!

I was speaking more along the lines of if they set off dirty bombs in major cities simultaneously or in a very short time frame. This is what I'm hearing that they're gearing up for, but who really knows?

Then I guess its a good thing that I snatched my gas mask and have it at home with multiple filters still in bags! That would suck though!

Randy,

You know that building down the street from my parents house next to the Little Chief gas station? It's some kind of mosque or something. I can't figure it out. They dress like Pakistanis...shirt tails with a litte cap. Apparently the Friday before last (in the middle of the day) they were having a little get together. I **** you not. There were about 25-30 cars in that parking lot and about 23-27 of them were Toyota Camrys...Strange.

Thats hilarious cuz I was behind one today at lunch driving a Camry and was thinking how in Michigan where the big Arab neighborhoods are, I bet you see the same cars in every driveway!

Did they have a slurpy stand out in front of the mosque for people driving by?

There is a good chance that some shrapnel went their way. Whether it was from the mortar itself or the surrounding rocks. I have a good friend who had a mortar land about 25 ft from him and a piece of a rock flew at him and went straight through his calf. He didnt feel it for a couple minutes but we could see a hole the whole way through so I am sure at least one or two other guys got hit with something.
