Default Stereo Questions?

My truck has XM and BOSE built in already. I want to replace the head unit because I'm going to put some subs in and with the PAC Converter to Subs I had a lot of Feedback. I had a Alpine V12 amp in it, but it was older. Could that have been the problem?

Though my real question is. I know with a PAC Converter I can use the stock speakers with it. Is there a way to make the Steering wheel controls work? Also if the radio has XM Capability can I just use the XM from the truck without purchasing a new XM receiver.

You don't have to pull you factory head unit. I didn't want to because I didn't want to lose my buttons on my wheel. This is what I'm using and it sounds great.

This plugs into the back your the factory head unit and give a place for the RCAs to plug into. It also comes with a cd that you play and it will fine tune the sound for you.

If the headunit has the output for steering wheel controls, then you can use the specific steering wheel interface. If not, then you can use the universal one that runs off of infrared. I've heard some things about those though. PAC makes the steering wheel interfaces.

I used the SWI-ALP for Alpine. It allowed me to keep the steering wheel controls and actually, when programming it, you can make the buttons whatever you want. I left everything the same with the exception that I used source down for mute.

I don't know about the XM.

Yes, the Cleansweep is another option if you didn't want change out the factory head unit. An aftermarket will be better, but a stock head unit with the Cleansweep comes close. Its all about what you plan to do with the head unit as whether it would be worth to purcahse an aftermarket or not.

Keep in mind though, that Cleansweep isn't cheap.

I saw my cousin install an aftermarket head unit in a Grand Prix once and he used a little LED that mounted on the front of the console to get the steering wheel buttons to still work. I think it came with the radio but dont quote me on that.
