Weapons Permit
Can anybody tell me if they know for sure or not if I am eligible to get a permit to carry a firearm? I'm not sure how the 5 year deal works or any severities on my record but I can say in 2000 I got a "unlicense possession of a firearm" in which at that time they only charged me a Class A misdemeanor ( I think it's a felony if you get caught now) and in 2006 a Class B "Liquor Violation" on my record. Do these charges negate me from getting this to protect myself? I have to deal with a quite a lot of money in a bad neighborhood and feel like a spring chick in an open pasture at times without this.

I'm not sure but i can tell you that they go by TODAYS laws and classifications not what kind of offense it was when u were givin the citation. Since its a felony now but wasnt back then, they still consider it a felony.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf
page 3 of the doc (page 7 of the PDF).
no felonies at all.
no class A or B misdemeanors in 5 years.
sorry bro, looks like you arent eligible. you may carry concealed in a vehicle or your home without a permit. if your neighborhood is that bad, that is a real personal decision you are going to have to make as to whether you think its worth the risk of breaking the law to protect your life or not.
better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

That gnikcuF reeks since I am in a situation where at any time somebody can come in and rob me and I have to make a pre decision if I want to protect myself and break the law (bad sentence form sorry) or wait another 5 years and hope the worst never happends. It's hard to fathom that a simple liquor violation (unintentional sale to minor) will make me ineligable for something to possess to protect me and my children.

if you think about it realisticly, if you do it right, no one will know your carrying. the only way you would get in trouble would be if an officer stops you on the street and conducts a searach. only reasonable way i can think of that happening would be a situation where you might carry on your back in an IWB holdster and you bend over to pick something up and your shirt pops up to expose your firearm.
if you get caught, you are in a world of hurt though.
it sucks that this situations come up, but we have laws for a reason. while you might be a generally responsible person that made a few mistakes, those laws mostly exist to control the really bad people.

I only want to be in the right by only carrying it at my place of business only. I am most likely to get robbed in my business because of the line of work.
I only want to be legal to have a firearm at my work and not be in any trouble if I have to use it there and there only.

a handgun is not the only kind of gun that you can protect yourself with.
i didn't take the time to read any of the material, but is it still illegal for him to carry a shotgun? i'm pretty sure that in TX, a shotgun doesn't even require a license in order to buy/carry.

Something happened to where'st exactly the situation I needed a gun! (sound like Yoda dont I not?) I got a call from the alarm company at 4:30a.m telling me that the glass breakage sensor went off. I reluctantly get up thinking "ok, this might be the last time I will get up, see my kids because I'm going to get shot and killed investigating what happened to my business because I'm unarmed!". I get there and there already is a squad car there making a report talking to my neighbor which has one of those "all nighter" bars next door. He told me that he heard the alarm go off and when he went out to look, four adolescent punks (no offense to you good kids) jumped into a car and sped off. The only damage was a broken lexan window and some stuff knocked over. The only thing I was getting to this was because of a non violent error, I have to get denied to get a permit to protect myself and my business there, what a crock of bs one has to go through to get one of those things.

long guns have very little regs on the books. you can have a loaded long gun in your car in plain sight. i woudlnt advise it unless the vehicle never leaves your sight, such as a farm truck that has a gun to shoot varmints.

Its alot easier to get a Florida carry permit. Take the Texas conceal course and send it in to Florida..They are way more forgiving with your record and its good in Texas... The carry corse I took had Florida paper work ready to go if you needed it... http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/eligible.html
