Default Still looking for help (welder)

I have been through no less than 8 different people in the last month and a half. More experience, less, eager, lazy, dumb, smartass, etc. etc. I have a small but quickly growing commercial metals company. We do all kinds of metal work from structural retros, high end architectural work, and most any kind of random fabrication you can think of. I know who I am looking for now. A guy that is eager and a journeyman in experience. Knows how to cut and weld pretty well, can lay some stuff out (to some limit), and is willing to learn and grow into how I want to do things. I give everybody a say, treat them well, and will for sure pay more as they learn and prove themselves.

Basic job abilities:
1. Understand how to build plumb, square, and true
2. Be able to weld fairly well with basic rods, 6010, 6011, 7018.
3. Run a cutting torch and make a cut that doesnt look like an alligators teeth
4. Be RELIABLE day in and day out
5. Willing and wanting to learn more to get more out of the job

I have a shop out just NE of Wylie, as well as jobs all over the Dallas area. It would make the most sense if the person was closer to Wylie than further.

If you have good common sense and fit the criteria above, or know someone that does please call me. 469-212-6487. Pay starts at $12-$14 per hour depending on experience. Raises will be as frequent as the person learns and earns.

Hate to inform you, but a good welder can make much more than that in today's economy. There is a shortage of good welders, some of the contract structural and pipe TIG guys we hire are making upwards of $30-50/hr. Their overtime checks are huge.

it seems like he might want somebody who is just starting and doesn't really have all the skills yet

That is the problem with most welders. They learn the skills on your dime, then jump ship to make bigger checks. lol

Hate to inform you, but very few guys actually get those wages. I know what the market is right now and it is MUCH stronger for your part of the world in the oil and gas/shipping industry. The person I am looking for is like I said, a journeyman, not a master. To come on as a structural weldor you are looking at $15-$18 per hour tops as an employee. The big money you talk about is in contract labor and the pay is erratic. So do me a favor and delete your post, its not constructive.

For sure. I want people that are looking to grow and help be the backbone of the company, for a very long time. Cornerstone employees are the only way to keep moving forward. BUT, I am done with the old, overpaid, under motivated guys that really dont care to do much more than burn a few rods in the day and lean on something the rest of the time. They are "worth" $18 per hour and dont do much of **** but belch, cuss, and antagonize people.
Hopefully you folks understand what I am getting at.

What kind of money are your employee's going to top out at is what will determine if they stay or move on. I have to agree with Nineball here, my welds looks like a pigeon **** in the bevels and my torch cuts look like a shark chewed the pieces off....and I make 33.00/hr to use somebody else's stuff. But hey, I hope the best for ya and there are plenty of people out there that will be eager to start out at those rates....just dont expect them to hang around once they get good unless you want to more than double their salary in about a year. And I know exactly what kind of dipshits you have to deal with. The world is crammed full of them. People that cant weld worth a damn........and talk like they single handedly put refineries together. Since I dont have to do any hiring or firing, I like watching those kind of people come in and get their *** run off in a week and be left with a big truck payment and shiny new welder that they cant pay for.

Me and my buddy make $27/hr as boiler makers for power plant contractors, not to mention 4 hours overtime everyday and double on Sundays. I doubt you'll find skilled labor for that cheap..

Good Luck finding help XFactor. I have been looking and I finally just hired my wife. At least she shows up for work and busts her ***, and doesnt wear her feelings on her shoulders.

I appreciate the lack of helpfulness in most of your replies gentlemen. Firstly, I dont know how many times I have to say that I am not looking for a senior weldor/fitter. Secondly, your opinions and what you make is neither needed or welcome. So as plainly as I can put it, get the **** out of my thread. I know what the God Damn market is, I know what I am looking for, and I know many guys that are making about the same money. They are however employed elsewhere.

Brady, if you are serious about your quality of workmanship, and even flaunt that, how very sad. I would be shocked if that is a true as it reads and someone didnt run your *** off the job. I wouldnt have someone like that around me for any wage.

Matt, thanks for the mature POV Buddy.

Madman, I feel your pain.

Hey, Im pretty sure you need to lighten up a little bit. I am definitely not against you here. In fact, if you will remember, I tried to help you find work when you got back here from Colorado? or wherever you were at. I know how hard it is to find good help...and was making light of that with my post. As for the sarcastic remark I made about my skills...it was a joke too because I take pride in my work and have never been fired from ANY job. Sorry for gettin under your skin and Im leavin the thread and hope the best of luck to you.

I didnt even read your whole post. I just saw another reply with what you made and assumed the rest. My apologies. I had another thread on a welding forum go just about like this one, but worst. Just didnt expect it here, and thats why I got up in arms.
