State tax.. Lets put it this way..
I just moved here around 3 years ago.. Had 2 vehicles to get registered..
It cost me 70 on one of them and 80 on the other.
It was the whole title transfer deal...
But cant say for sure of the state tax.. Did not think they had it here...
But not sure what they might do for you coming from japan....

thanks for the info. its actually for my wifes car. we got the car in aug. and since she was still in the military then we only had to pay half of the tax in south carolina.

if its a new purchase, you must pay TX sales tax.
if its brought from another state, you must pay 'new resident tax', which could vary from county to county. i recall paying something around $90 when i registered my hawk in fort worth
