Default Went on a rig today

We got to go to the Genesis training rig in Sugar Land, it's fully operational land rig. They really wouldn't let us do much, they said to ask questions but every time we did the driller would bust out a 20 minute long story about how some one lost fingers throwing chains. I plan to work off shore when I graduate this May, going to mud school in the summer. I got some insight in to what it's like, seems like a no bull **** environment, they don't mess around at all. But life on a rig seems like it sucks ***.

What is your degree going to be Neil? Working on rigs does suck ***, ships are slightly better since they go into port pretty often.

Mud engineer is probably one of the best jobs out there. Roustabouts is the suck of the suck jobs out there. I spent some time on a gasoline rig once. 3 man crew, those guys slept in because the place ran itself. Not to mention the platform stayed pretty clean.

I always liked the basket ride from the boats up to the main deck

I was doin a little Hydrocarbon Well Analization. Well worth the cash, and easy as hell too. Sit in an office on the rig and watch gauges. Draw a log once a night, and your done.

I always thought going offshore was fun because you got to either ride in a boat or a helicopter to get there, and the food out on the rigs was fantastic. But you are right in that the land jobs are not near as much fun.

I've been on offshore rigs for 7 years now, and I love it. Mud engineer would be the job to have. There isn't much to their jobs except a lot of computer work. I wish that I worked on some of the rigs you guys have been on because the food on ours sucks.

I have talked to several people that have done it, seems a lot of the job is learning from experience of being out there.

Political Science with a minor in International Business. I need a degree before I can go to mud school. Looking to use the field experience I gain out there to learn the industry so I can go back for a corporate job later down the line. Field experience seems like a good way to open up opportunity if you I stay at it for a while, my goal is to work in QHSE in safety facet.

I'm currently on BP's Thunderhorse and don't have any complaints really. Food's pretty good. Doin' ROV work.

Also did some work on an Otto Candies boat, food was great.

I have a friend that is working on an off shore rig. He is a two week on one week off deal. I will ask him when I see him and PM you the info. I work for a frac company and man it is long hours but easiest six figures I will ever earn. Just aas long as nobody screws up and kills me.

I know some people in high places within DODI. I can hook up anybody with off-shore experience.
