Default 4L60E Question.

Ok. Well my boss has a 4L60E transmission sitting at the shop. It went out, so he replaced it with a rebuilt one he had sitting around. It came out of his '01-'02 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3L V8. I was wondering if this same transmission would fit into my '00 Firehawk. If so, I'm thinking about buying it from him and getting it built, then possibly installed in my car. Yeah, seems kinda of crazy going from an M6 to an A4, but I have been wanting a stalled auto. for quite awhile now. I haven't completely decided yet on what I wanna go cause I probably have no more then 1,000 miles on my new LS7 clutch kit. Thanks for the help, Ryan.

Here's an idea..

Let's swap.. Mine for yours..

PM me if interested. We could do it over @ ACE in NRH..

Internally they are the same. Just one or two differences to concern yourself with.

The manual valve linkage mounts differently on a truck than a F-Body. The truck manual valve shaft needs to be replaced with a car shaft.

And the tailhousing does not have the Torque Arm mounting bosses cast into it. That might not be a big deal if you go with a crossmember that includes the Torque Arm mount.

Hope That helps.

I don't know man. You have a 3600 stall and I don't really wanna go that big. Is that good enough for daily driving, or no? Don't know where "NRH" is either.

Yeah, And I bet he ain't gettin' the good 'ol gas mileage my 6 spd. is putting out. I'm seriously thinking about going to a stalled auto. Still have to talk it over with my Dad. It hasn't even been a month since I had my LS7 clutch kit installed.

There are other differences a few people don't know about as it isn't a popular swap, but the Bell housings are different and so are the shaft lengths on some years in theory you could put your bell housing on it and your converter and it would work. Good luck.

Oh it's not going out man. I have just been wanting a stalled auto for awhile. My clutch is perfect. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Ahh, you got me there..

Yes, i do DD my car and for the mod's i don't do bad on mileage. I get @ least 20mpg on the Hwy..( my best is 24mpg on a road trip to Wisconsin)

The car has perfect street manners and my Vig3600 is pretty much new.

I too am headed to Gilbert @ ACE in February. ( my birthday) to get a "built" up 4L60E.. that is unless GunshotZ28 would like to swap..?

I bought my car brand new and have built it how i like it.

An M6 would be great for DD... that is the ONLY reason i would consider changing. You CANNOT beat a stalled A4 "literally" if it is done right!

My car is currently putting down 403/405 to the wheels through my stalled A4

My console is perfect..everything looks new..

Let me know buddy.. I let you think on it til the end of January..

Are you from the DFW area?
