Default someone help me out

Long story short I got screwed over by some work done to my 01 SS and my motor is shot. I'm not to familiar with engines but I love my car and don't want to part with it. My question is...Would it be better to get a brand new ls1 from a chevy house for $3200 or wait and try to find a used Ls2 for around the same price. I'm not even sure that an Ls2 would work in my car but I have been told that it would. I'm also weary about buying a used motor since every time I find one someone is always telling me that "you can never know how many miles it really has it..." or "something could be wrong with it that you can't see'' or "your not going to want to mess with that swap..." I wish it could just be simple. What do you think? Any advice would help or information on the subject. Thanks.

just keep an eye out in the for sale section and you'll find a stout motor that will work in your car. for less than 3200

It's a pot shot thing. Sometimes you'll get real lucky and find something better than you wanted for that price. When my motor went south I was lucky enough to find a complete 6.0 for $2000 from someone here. I would have probably spent close to $3,000 as well if I wouldnt have looked.

Pick up a nice crate motor... you can get a 400HP rated ls1 on the crate for around 2000
shipped to your house.... You will need to help the trucker pull it off the truck so have some buddies there on delivery day..
I am a fan of crate motors since I have bought a few in the past and have always had a good track record....
