Default PROJECT: LS6 Need advice...

Ok, I tried this in the Gen III Ext. forum but didn't get much response so I'll post it here for my fellow Texas experts.

So I've given a lot of thought about if I wanted to get heavily into modding my Z28 and what exactly would I do if I did. After a lot of debate I've decided to upgrade my LS1 to an LS6 since, basically, what I have in my '02 is a downgraded LS6 anyway. My engine currently has 63k miles.

My approach to this upgrade is this; imagine you're in a Chevy dealership in late '01 or early '02 and you are ordering a Z28. The saleman tells you of a little known and rarely used LS6 upgrade option from the factory. That's what I'm after, a factory quality LS6 installation using nothing but O.E. parts.

I've searched the threads on here about the conversion and have decided I'd like to focus my thread on the fact that I have an '02 and what would be the best approach. I've talked to a couple of people and the consensus was if you want to do the LS6 upgrade and my car is already an '02 makes sure to use '02 LS6 heads and cam. Also, what advice can you give me from the people who have already done this mod (stock rear end ok, suspension upgrades needed if any, things to look out for, etc...).

I'm not looking for "what a waste of money" or "you can get better Hp out of XXXXX head and cam combo" replies, that's not what I'm after. This is the mod I want to do, I'm not looking for best hp for the buck combinations.

Thanks for any input you guys can give me.

You can get LS6 cam/heads cheap. Bone stock heads should be maybe 4-500 or so for a good deal and I've found cams for well under 100 bucks. I was contemplating the same swap but I fell victim to the "more power from xxx and xxx."

GL with the swap, I'm sure you will enjoy it!

They say the first step on a journey is always the longest. Seems so here with this one as well.

Yeah, heads and cam kind of go without saying. I was more concerned with the stock suspension handling the new hp and if the stock powertrain would be an issue. Also, specifically what parts would be used. I've been told the heads and cam out of an '02 LS6 but I've also been told that the LS1 hotcam from GMPP is the way to go. Thanks for the reply.

I just found this thread using "Search." I installed my LS6 longblock in the summer of '04, so of course I have the LS6 cam, springs and heads with it. I'm thinking about a cam upgrade for this summer and have been wondering if the LS1 Hotcam is the way to go for me too. Since I already have LS6 springs, all I'd need to swap is the cam. I currently put down 385 RWHP with the LS6 swap and bolt-ons, so I'm wodering if I'll break the 400 RWHP mark if I go with the LS1 Hotcam.

Whatcha think? Yeah, I know I can get more if I go with a bigger cam, but I'll have to change springs too. Since I won't have to change springs for the Hotcam, I'm wodering if this might be my best option...
