Closed on our house!
After some hiccups with our initial construction manager (who became a victim of a "reduction in force"), Meritage Homes really came through and made the process very easy. We still have a few little things to get done (the cleaning crew spilled something on the carpet and it has to be replaced, as well as some little detail stuff), but we're on target to move in this weekend!

1) Install garage door openers
2) Get the floor coated
3) Get rid of the single bulb incandescents and replace them with fluorescents.

We went with the media room option, and converted both bedroom four and the formal living room into offices. This way, we both have our own spaces, and PLENTY of shared spaces.

I am going to get out of my current house in a couple years and build something similar on a few acres.... with a nice steel erected workshop out back to house all the toys.

redsox_ws6: Like I said, our first construction manager was terrible. He made several decisions that were pretty critical without consulting us, and when we questioned him on anything, he got really defensive and abrasive. Plus, he was terrible at communication and flat-out lied when he was asked about calling us. The second guy we got was MUCH better. Very attentive, excellent communication, and didn't blow any smoke up our asses. When we did our initial walkthrough, he had about 10 things on his list before we even showed up, then we added several more. He made sure to tell us about some other little issues, like a floor tile he accidentally broke when fixing something else (and he is fixing without question). The sales lady and the guy at MTH Lending were both really great, but I'm betting they all went out drinking last night, since they're finally rid of me. I was a total pain in the *** the whole time, but we're not planning on moving again any time in the foreseeable future. This is our permanent home, unless the neighborhood turns to crap or something.
Tristan/Jeff: Same area of town, actually only about 10 minutes from my old house. It's in Shadow Creek Ranch. We've still got open lots on either side of us, which is good and bad. It's good at the moment, since it means we don't have neighbors, but when they eventually build homes there, it's going to be a mess.
