Default 427 Ls-1?

I didnt know you could bore an Ls-1 into a 427. Check out this website.http://www.samracing.com/99chevycamarossspecs.html. Can I bore my 2000 z/28's engine into a 427? What would be some of the problems other than the cylinder walls being thin.

its prolly very similar problems to the 410ci LT1's. If they warranty it and you want the sucker, then get it! they put 427ci motors in those dick harrell camaro's, im sure you're good with one.

they dont technically bore the stock cylinders. first thing they remove the factory sleeves and remove a good amount of material from the sleeve pocket in the block and then they install the bigger aftermarket sleeves . and then bore the larger sleeves out to the new displacement. you can slightly bore factory sleeves. but it will come nowheres near the 4.125" bore needed for the 427 cubic inch displacement.

its a combination of the 4.125 bore and the 4 inch stroke that add up to the 427 cubic inch displacement.

The Wet Sleeve technology has came along way since the first one, which was in Crager's car.

ERL/Darton have made a pretty good product, but in OUR application, we are running a C5R block.

Our older LS6 block with the darton sleeves lasted till about 860 horsepower Naturally aspirated when unfortunately a rod snapped and took out the motor.

Like Joe said, the old sleeves are removed and a good majority of metal is removed. Then a step is left and a new sleeve is pressed in with a few other modifications.

Once the sleeve is in, it is machined to the bore size you want with a nice hone finish and tada..... the motor is done and ready.

4.125" bore^2 x 4.000 stroke x.7854 x 8 cylinders = 427 cubic inches.

yes very large aftermarket sleeves, its really expensive but less than an LSx block, its done easily but most places wont do it so you have to ship the block off. then you just have to find the parts to finish the job.

They have been doing this for quite a while now. And they have been doing it for a long time with motors in general, boring & stroking motors that is.

Depends, but you can just call up Darton and order a block that they have already done. Same with REV and ERL.

The other thing with doing the sleeves was the machine needed to put the sleeves in. That was the other reason why blocks had to get shipped out for it.

Usually for a block you already own, to have it sleeved was a thousand or two for the finished product ready to assemble.

Not unless you put solid lifters in it.

i think he means, durable, yes it is durable and this was the only way of doing this i believe until the LSx block was out.
