What do you think??
Hey guys,
I wanted to get a general idea of what people think I should do with
the decision I have in the near future.
Full upgrade LS6 Zo6 heads, Comp Cams 233, 244 cam and a Fast 90/90 intake.
Or should I just save for a little longer and go with a 408 build?? The 408 would actually be only maybe $1,000.00 more dollars.
I have a 02 WS6 M6, 29k Miles
LT Headers, Free mods, Ported TB, Y pipe 3 in Exhaust. And a Zex 150 wet kit.
Later in the year before I get home I will put on a mild suspension upgrade, Trans rebuild and drag radials.
I only want no more than 450 to 550 rwhp/rwtq I dont plan on anymore after that.
I know their are always variables and all that. Just please " Based " off my info I gave let me know what you think.
Thanks guys sorry if I left something out.
Zach

What all kind of driving do you do? Drag race, autox, road race? If you drive in the twisties, the extra weight from an iron block may mess up your weight distribution so you may consider an LS2 for your build instead of a 408 iron block (assuming that's what you are planning). If you would be happy with 450ish HP on motor, good heads & intake should bump you over that with a cam & a good tune & your current mods (and maybe a few more bolt ons). There are a lot of ways to spend your money, but I wouldn't get stock Z06 heads if that's what you are planning. Get the good stuff now in case you want more later you didn't waste money.

Honestly, I think there is a huge difference between a 450 hp car and a 550 hp car. This all depends on if you want a quick street car, a really fast street car or a track car that can be street driven.
I also think it'll cost more than $1000 going to a 408 over putting some ported LS6 heads on and a cam in your 346. Just a short block 408 is in the 3700 range and then you still have to get it R&R'd, buy heads, cam, the 90/90, and a tune.
Just got to narrow your desires down brother.
Either way, you may want to start saving for a 12 bolt or 9" and plan on getting the suspension set up right instead of just minor mods.

Do a heads and cam swap on your 346... If it's not broke don't fix it right ?
besides like Greed4speed posted a 408 will run you alot more than 1k more..
A good 408 is like $4500 then good heads for it is like $2000 then a cam $400 then the 90/90 $1200 on sale (if you can find it) $400 tune and $1500 to install it all...so I'd say about under 10k..
You can do a heads cam swap for around 2k and I can point you in the right direction for that..
You know my car is cam and full bolt-on's with stock heads and puts 420+ to the ground... Stock bottom end...

I built my 408 for right under 10 grand. Its a LQ9 block, with L92 and L76 combo. It has TSP Texas Giant cam in it. This was all done and installed. If you want the shops number that did mine pm me.
