I found it impossible to compress the factory springs with the little compressor that you crank down with a wrench. So what I did was, I took off the spring and shock assembly and took them down the street to the local mechanic and gave him 20 dollars to compress them and take old shocks off and put knew one's on. Much quicker and easier this way.

Having done it with the auto zone spring compressor, I say definitely take the fronts struts to a mechanic and have him swap the shocks for you. It is a major PITA to do with the auto zone compressor. Other than that, its is not that bad.

Maybe it would help if you explained what you're trying to accomplish. I read your first post as "I'm changing the shocks, so I need to know how." Did I mis-read that?

Please be very careful with springs. They are under load and can shoot very far when removed. Id take it to a shop to be safe.

If that's the case, it's a whole lot easier. Read through the link I posted earlier in this thread, but skip the whole part about compressing the spring and removing the top nut. Just remove the whole spring/shock as an assembly and install the new one.

That said, are you sure it's a stock spring (or one whose ride height and spring rates you want)? If it's a lowered spring, you should get an alignment afterward, to correct the camber.
