Smile Going to SAM.

Well I figured out that I'm going to SAM as of now! Starts Sept. 3rd, I can't wait, its gonna be a whole new world down there for me. I'm from a tiny Minnesota city of 3,500 people, so H-town is gonna be a bit of a change to say the least! Is anyone else from the boards going there too? I'm possibly looking for a roommate too if anyone is planning on an apartment near SAM. Looking forward to meeting more car people, and checking out the whole scene down there!

Sweet. I'm pretty sure BigBronco and a couple other people go there as well. Good luck!
And Houston has by far one of the largest population of LSx cars in any city I've ever seen.

Keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open and the school will take you as far as you want to go.

I started last Sept at SAM and came from a smaller town in northern Indiana. It takes a bit to get adjusted, but I love it down here now.

If you dont have a roomate, castlewood isnt really too bad of a place to live. They will find you a roomate from the school, and if they dont pay their rent you only have to pay your half. Thats pretty nice. If you have any questions fell free to ask me, I've been here for almost two years now, so ive been through pretty much everything at the school.

well as long as your talking about School of Automotive Machinest then yes, i go to SAM.. most people will think your talking about SAM Houston. where are you moving in houston? i live 30 miles away and it's an easy hour + commute in the mornings because of the horrible traffic. also, i hope you are good at math because there's a tad bit involved.

I'm planning on going, but I won't be able to start until January at the earliest seeing as how I'm still in High School. And when you say math, what kind of math are you talking about? That's like nails on a chalk board to my ears either way lol, I'm sure I'll manage.

Good to hear. SAM is a helluva school. My advice is to get in there and get involved in everything going on there. From the racecars to the EMC engines, get involved. Stay late whenever you can and practice and make your mistakes at school. Don't wait till you get to the employer to learn how to resize a rod. Measure everything they'll let you measure. You'll have access to a wealth of information and experience few people our age get to experience. Ask questions, lots of questions no matter how dumb it may seem, because the answer will only make you smarter, and that's all that counts. I graduated last year and I was born a raised in Texas so gimme a shout if you have any questions.

It's not that bad, the most complicated stuff is in Casey's class, which is only basic algebra equations. Not too hard at all, but if you are willing to take the time and make an effort to learn, everyone there is willing to take the time to teach you. Except Chris, lol

i barely got out of intence math in high school so it was bad at first, but then you learn and move on to next hard part. all you gotta do is pay attention and don't be affraid to get called out in front of class to solve a problem on the board .... don't let the math scare ya away.

Good to hear all the positive comments. I made it through pre-calc pretty decent, so I hope to do fine. Being it has to do with engines and racing, it will make the math that much more interesting and exciting.

Do the problems over and over with repetition. Stay as late as possible. Work on as many projects as allowed. Work your tail off and it WILL pay off.

Do as Ben R. said as well.
