Haha, for $5,000 I would sell you my 40k mile LS1 with full bolt ons and install it for you.

I would get a hold of a sponsor on here and go a forged long block route. For just a grand or two more than the estimate on a stock block you could get a very very nice forged internal engine.

Literally out the side of the block? Get a new block/rod and rebuild the one you got. That's the cheapest, esp. if you can't do the labor yourself.

buy a rebuilt small block and install it yourself, i believe hotboi was selling a short block fairly cheap, he just has a bolt stuck in the block, which im sure a machine shop can get out for around 30-50 bucks? Just replace what needs to be replaced. However, if you can afford a new engine and install then buy a forged motor and have it installed. But do the work yourself i promise you that it'll save you tons and tons! you'll learn a lot too. Also, disassemble the motor yourself because if the heads and intake and whatnot are fine then a short block is all you need. I'd personally go that route if i was short on money.

well depending on how much you are wanting to spend.
You need to buy a crate motor ls1 with 430hp..
that will run you about 4 grand, then you can start selling pieces off the old engine to make back some of the money..

Then bam.. there you go. A nice fast engine for your car... Just dont put water into the engine again..

I got a forged 347 w/cam kit installed for less than $3k total from the sponsors on this board, $5k for a stock LS1 is ridiculous.

I too would check with insurance - just find a cheap stock air box, stick it in the car, and then say "i was caught in a flash flood". New motor, for just the cost of the insurance money.

You could probably get a forged motor too, depending on who is allowed to work on the car and what kind of deal you can work out with a sponsor.

There's people selling ls1 blocks all the time here and there. It's like waiting for a bus so if your patient, you'll get one cheaper than that. A prime example was someone was selling a 6.0 (Complete) for $2,000. Not, $5,000, do you think I jumped on that deal?

5K? wow, i thought we overcharged for a remanufactured LS1 at advance auto parts and that is 3500 bucks. you can definetly find them a hell of alot cheaper then that.
