Port forwarding - What am I doing wrong?
I followed the directions for setting up my router to forward a port here: http://www.portforward.com/english/a.../Utorindex.htm
But the this site still claims that my specified port is not open: http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=29589

what model router do you have?
on my linksys router, you have to tell it what IP address to forward the port to. you also need to specify UDP or TCP. your bit torrent program should tell you that info about the port numbers and the TCP/UDP.

gO TO THE PORT FORWARDING SECTION. Type in you port. Tell it what IP to go to. Make sure you don't have any "aftermarket" firewalls that may be blocking ports. And some ISPs block port 25 (email) be default unless you request to unblock it.

My router is a Trendnet TEW-231BRP.
I did everything the directions told me to including going into the router config and specifying the port number and IP address.

" You can configure the Broadband Router as a virtual server so that remote users accessing services such as the Web or FTP at your local site via public IP addresses can be automatically redirected to local servers configured with private IP addresses. In other words, depending on the requested service (TCP/UDP port number), the Broadband Router redirects the external service request to the appropriate server (located at another internal IP address). "
Any idea what all of that says?

the page you want is this one:
once you're on this page, enter the port you want as a range of ports, even if it's just a single port.....so for port 29589, in the "Mapping Ports" field, type "29589-29589" (without the quotes), and in the "Server IP" box, enter the IP address of the computer running the torrent program. then just check the "Enabled" box, then "Apply" at the bottom, and you should be set. just make sure the same port # is specified in your torrent program as well.
if it still doesn't work after that, the main cause is usually a software firewall (either 3rd-party or the integrated Windows firewall). you will need to allow traffic from that port in the firewall's settings in order for it to pass the traffic.
