Default Anyone ever had this freakin problem?

ok so I picked up a beater chvy 88 pickup a few months ago and just recently been driving from west houston to the woodlands everyday and well it worked great being that we are going so far for atleast a week. Then bam all the lights shut off and since its been converted to carburater (spelling no work that good for me) anyways she kept running till i shut it off so I said screw it and replaced the alternator and the battery drive for a day or so and bamn same problem, so I'm like crap whats going on i charge it and it runs again then bamn today im stuck in spring so I get pissed off and pull into a automotive place and they take a look at the truck well come to find out the 1 wire hook up that goes to the alternater had NO WIRE IN IT at all about 1" away from where it enters the lil connector it had no wire AT ALL...

ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING? The guy up there said he had but only a couple times in all his years of doing mechanic work...

anywyas sorry for the story but that crap freaked me out specialy being how far i had been driving everyday.

so after missing out on work being that Im a subcontractor and missing out on some cash u can imagine what im doin now

Had a similar problem with my '90 and I thought the alternator was out, it ended up being the main wire had corroded and fell off of the connector when I went to pull it out.

Question though, did they also put a mechanical fuel pump on the truck ?

you don't have to put a mechanical fuel pump on there, just run a regulator w/ a return. and i'd bet that 88 block doesn't have the provision for the pump.

yup them people sure did put a mechanical pump on there... I would have just put a regulater in there and let it be. But hell she starts up on the first kick everytime anyways.

I kind of thought so, as if all your lights went out, the fuel pump should have, too. Do you have any problems with inspections ? I had considered doing the same thing with a similar truck.
